"Naked Singaporean man seeks political asylum at US Embassy in Singapore" was arrested and handed over to the Singaporean police force. The man attempted to climb over the gate of the embassy but did not make it as a passerby's shout "hotbot" scared him causing him to fall off the gate. It isunderstood the man is currently in remand at Institute of Mental health - Reuters

Very difficult to seek political asylum in Western embassies. I know of someone who tried to do so. They simply showed him the door.
Getting accountability is easier if you have a populace who are not afraid of the gov't. In Canada there are at least 5 political parties that are in parliament right now. There is even a communist party in Canada
