I ask again what to shit is overseas voting for? Especially for those in the US, make them vote a day before hand but give the freaking excuse of Hurricane Irene that the votes won't be flow home immediately.

If there are 10 000 voters then it will be crucial for this election.

Officially, they are for if the winning difference is less than 5k votes (number of overrseas voters).

Skeptics will suspect it is merely another chance to ahem you know what...

Might as well dont other. Most overseas voters live outside the capital cities where the embassies are

What a waste of $$$ getting this civil servants to hand carry the voting papers from all over the World for nothing...

It has been touted as being allowing overseas voters the chance to exercise their rights, but we know the regime will not implement this if it does not benefit them in one way or another (think GRC). So, if you ask what it is for, it is for delaying results in the event of a very close fight where the regime is in an adverse position. It will be hard for the regime's opponents to monitor the overseas voting process. Effectively, opponents will have to win decisively by 2% + number of overseas voters, to prevent any fishy recount or overseas count.

Inthe end you should boyott overseas voting. The 5000 people were stupid to waste time and transport to vote, especially those in the US with the hurricane approaching

Ask yourself who benefits in a boycott? MFA has employees all over the world. Who their votes go to will be no mystery.

Boycotting will not work. As I said, the regime will never introduce tools that do not benefit itself first.

It is up to WP, our so called only viable opposition, to debate on it. Did they vote against it when the system was introduced years ago? Will they call for a revisit? Abolishing it will be as difficult as the GRC.

WP is the real opposition not so-called. TJS and CSJ are so called.

Oversea vote are wasting time and money. Only about 5000 oversea vote. How much money is spend? Manpower, airflight, security............................
Total oversea vote less than 1%. Most oversea or more than 90% don't have chance to vote because location too far from embassy and also not convenient for them to vote.
Next time just abolish oversea vote. Since quantity is very less.

Overseas votes just to make up the numbers & to show democracy at work in a PAP-controlled tiny isle?

To be fair, overseas voting is offered by most other countries too. Won't want Singapore to look like behind the times, do we?
