A lot of people are talking about China's retaliation against Apple. Her view is that its unlikely. Apple supports at least 5 to 6 million direct and indirect jobs in China. The Commie government isn't going to be so stupid to kill Apple. If they do, they will get more social problems. Letting Huawei suffer is a better bet for social stability.
It is probably not the Chinese authorities who will kill APPLE. It is the Chinese people themselves because of national pride. It is a shame to hold a iphone in China if you are a Chinese.

Don't play around with compliance issues when you are in a MNCs with global worldwide business. Compliance is now an industry by itself. Lose a bit of money here and there is OK, End of the day, no one wants to go to jail or be personally responsible for non compliance with laws. Its a basic Code of Conduct issue. No CEO or senior leadership in these companies is that stupid to put their life, career and big pay check on the line to be nice to HW. Lol

Anyway, look at it in perspective. HW and China will learn from all these events and change their way of doing business in the long run. It's better for the world and everyone, including consumers. Life goes on. China won't collapse. USA won't die. Difficult times won't last forever. No need to be anti or pro China or USA and take sides. Lol
It just goes to prove the dictum we Singaporean always say - Ang Moh Dua Kee.

Unlikely now... with Huawei being bullied by the AMDK. It is in their DNA to protect and fight for their country especially when they see that they are being bullied by foreign powers...the Chinese has a long history of foreign domination, but they have come a long way to become as a united socialist country. When President Xi told the Chinese people to prepare for the LONG MARCH... it is a rallying call to support Chinese products and dump US...just that outsiders do not understand the writing on the wall.

Things just keep getting worse for Huawei. The company was barred from being a member of the SD Association (SDA), the trade group responsible for standardizing SD and microSD cards. The change in status means that Huawei will no longer be able to offer products using official SDA branding and will exclude the company from being involved in setting standards going forward.
The SD Association confirmed to Engadget that Huawei was dropped from the trade group in order to comply with recent orders from the US Department of Commerce. Last week, the government agency placed Huawei and 70 of its affiliate companies on its "Entity List," a decision that signifies the government believes Huawei may be undermining American interests. It also makes the company ineligible to receive items or funding without government approval. That, in addition to the executive ordersigned by President Trump that bans the sale and use of telecommunications equipment from companies that pose "unacceptable" risks to national security, has placed Huawei in a significant bind.
Huawei told Android Authority that its customers will be able to continue purchasing and using SD and microSD cards with its products for the time being. It's not clear how the move will affect the company's future phones and devices, but Huawei has been moving away from the format in favor of its own "Nano Memory Cards."
Being dropped by the SD Association is certainly a blow to Huawei, but it's a relatively small one given some of the other hits the company has taken in the last week. Google suspended Android support for the company's phones and chipmakers Intel, Qualcomm and AMD have cut off supplies to the Chinese tech maker.

Two opposing trajectories. I am very interested to see how this will play out.

Why do Western countries dislike China's success?

Let’s read the following stories, which throw some lights of American’s poor behaviour! I received this story from a WhatsApp group.

Toshiba yesterday, Huawei today!

Thirty years ago, Toshiba exported precision instruments to Russia. The United States has imposed the following penalties on Toshiba Group

1: The Japanese Police Department was ordered to arrest Erhe Lin, President of Toshiba Machinery Foundry, and Hiroshima Tanamura, President of Machine Tool Business, and sentenced to 10 years'imprisonment.

2: Closing Toshiba's factory in the United States

3: A 100% tariff on Toshiba products sold to the United States

4: As an alternative punishment to the previous one, Toshiba's exports to the United States were banned for five years.

5: A huge fine of 1 trillion yen was imposed on Toshiba, equivalent to $16 billion today.

In order to calm the anger of the United States, Japan has imposed severe penalties on Toshiba Group:

First, Japan's semiconductor industry will unconditionally share technology with American companies.

Second, Toshiba spent 100 million yen to publish a full-page apology advertisement in all major newspapers in the United States.

Thirdly, Japan Semiconductor Association invested 9 million US dollars to launch various relations lobbying in the US Congress, and this lobbying has become the most costly lobbying war in history.

Fourthly, the chairman and general manager of Toshiba Group resigned.

Fifthly, by an administrative order issued by the Ministry of Communications, Toshiba is prohibited from exporting any products to 14 countries for a period of one year.

The United States is the master of Japan, Japan can only apologize, which has led to Toshiba gradually losing its past glory.

Toshiba was the hope of Japan's science and technology industry, and also the hope and pillar of Japan's manufacturing. After suffering a heavy blow from the United States, Toshiba went downhill thoroughly.

The U.S. attacked Toshiba not because it sold equipment to the Soviet Union, but because it affected U.S. interests. The United States believes that the Japanese semiconductor industry represented by Toshiba Group seriously threatens the economic interests of the United States, while the Japanese high-end manufacturing plan threatens the United States and challenges the technological hegemony of the United States.

Looking back more than 30 years ago, the experience of Toshiba, Japan, and looking at what the United States is doing today, there are indeed many similarities.

The United States does not allow its high-end manufacturing industry to be challenged at all, nor does it allow its technological hegemony to be challenged. The United States hopes that other countries will all be American workers and will never allow other countries to become shareholders of American interests.

Now targeting Huawei!

4G belongs to United States’ AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint. The world's countries pay more than 10,000 trillion yuan in copyright fees to the four companies in the United States. China's 4G pays US$100 million in annual copyright fees to US companies. If the countries around the world switch to Huawei 5G, the United States will lose more than 10,000 billion yuan of foreign exchange each year, which is set at 20% of the annual GDP of the United States.

Therefore, the United States will not allow 5G in the world.

the United States will destroy Huawei to protect the interests of the United States;

i.e. stopping the loss of at least 20% of USA's GDP.

SAN FRANCISCO: Facebook Inc is no longer allowing pre-installation of its apps on Huawei phones, the latest blow for the Chinese tech giant as it struggles to keep its business afloat in the face of a US ban on its purchase of American parts and software.
Customers who already have Huawei phones will still be able to use its apps and receive updates, Facebook told Reuters. But new Huawei phones will no longer be able to have Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram apps pre-installed.

Smartphone vendors often enter business deals to pre-install popular apps such as Facebook. Apps including Twitter and Booking.com also come pre-installed on Huawei phones in many markets. Twitter Inc declined to comment and Booking Holdings did not respond to a request.
The move by Facebook dampens the sales outlook for Huawei Technologies, whose smartphone business became its biggest revenue generator last year, powered by strong growth in Europe and Asia.
Huawei declined to comment.

Alphabet Inc's Google said earlier that it would no longer provide Android software for Huawei phones after a 90-day reprieve granted by the US government expires in August. But Google's Playstore and all Google apps will still be available for current models of Huawei phones including those which have not yet shipped or even been built.
The Facebook ban, by contrast, applies to any Huawei phone that has not yet left the factory, according to a person familiar with the matter. Facebook declined to comment on when the suspension took place.
In May, Washington banned US companies from supplying technology to Huawei, part of a long-running campaign against the company. The United States alleges that Huawei is too close to the Chinese government and that its telecom network gear and other products could be a conduit for espionage, which Huawei denies.
Buyers of current Huawei phone models that do not have Facebook pre-installed would still be able to download it from the Google Playstore. Future versions of Huawei phones, however, will not have access to the Google Playstore and its apps unless the US government changes course.

Huawei has said it was prepared for the US action and vowed to work around any disruptions. But some customers at stores in Europe and Asia have told Reuters that they are reluctant to buy Huawei phones in the face of uncertainties, and analysts expect a dramatic drop in Huawei smartphone sales.
