Huat AH! Singapore is more expensive then Sydney!

Surprisingly these 2 countries has minimum wages.

If a country is productive and stands upon a solid foundation, a reasonable minimum wage can be implemented without causing any significant distortions in the economy.

Think of a country as nothing more than an extended family business.

If a family business consisting of two parents employing their two children turns over $50,000 a year, there is no way that the business is going to survive if the children demand that they be paid a minimum wage of $30,000 per annum each. It would put the business in a $10,000 deficit even before any other expenses were met.

To meet the wage demands, the family business first has to increase revenue significantly

A country is no different.

And this is what they have been doing in Australia. Its governed by Fair Work Australia.

http://www.fairwork.gov.au/factsheets/FWO-fact-sheet-minimum-wages.pdf

The minimum wages received by employees in the
national workplace relations system are determined
annually by a specialist Minimum Wage Panel of the Fair
Work Commission.
Any determinations made to vary minimum wages in
modern awards or a national minimum wage order will
apply from the first full pay period on or after 1 July
each year.

Role[edit]

FWC is an independent body with the power and authority to regulate and enforce provisions relating to:
the safety net of minimum wages and employment conditions
enterprise bargaining
industrial action
dispute resolution
termination of employment[4]
The Fair Work Act established a new system of regulation that attempted to create a more national system for regulating industrial relations in Australia. Each state has the discretion to hand over some or all of their industrial relations powers to the Commonwealth, and should a state decide to refer their powers to a centralized and national industrial relations system, all the employees of that state will effectively be covered by the national Fair Work Act. This new national body has taken over the roles of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission (AIRC) in the workplace when dealing with workplace dispute and industrial actions, and in the process determining national industrial relations policies that include setting minimum wages and regulating the award system. Since the introduction of the Fair Work Act, all states have referred their powers to the Commonwealth with the exception of Western Australia.[5]

Basically, workers understood the implication of having a higher wage. Various "disputes" over the years has the workers relenting to demands in order to keep the factory, company afloat. In a perfect world, there won't be a need for unions or corporations to exist. Unfortunately, we don't live in one.

Of course that is common sense but in the Singapore context, it does not make sense that a family member is not paid his just dues in order to survive. The country's productivity per Singaporean is well below the average simply because of it's dependence on low wage FWs. Now in the case of most 1st world nations, it would be too costly to employ maids and other FWs. Citizens have to work doubly hard to make up for the shortfall, whether they are low or middle-income. They have shorter working hours than we do and they have minimum wages.

Over here, it is the norm to have low wage FWs because the government made it possible for them to do so. This is across the broad spectrum of all industries. Now if they had been wiser in the past, they should not have implement such a policy. It is too late to make the adjustments and the country and it's citizens are suffering now due to past mistakes. It is sad that the government are blaming the people for not being productive and choosy in taking jobs when these jobs are to replace low wage FWs and the wages received are not sufficient to survive. The problem may be too great for even the best brains to resolve, and eventually something has to give if nothing is done to ease the situation. Bringing in more and more foreigners is not the answer as it will alienate the citizens and the rulers who need their votes to stay in power.

Thats where you are mistaken brother....

The rulers are diluting the purity of the singaporean core who doesnt want them by importing more new citizens....especially the low level shithole types like pinoys and burmese who never had any real peace or stability and in their ardent gratefulness will just vote the pap in sheer gratitude......witness how the fuckers in the UMNO got their east malaysian vote bank??

The pap also knows how to play such dirty tricks.......

The problem with Singapore is that it does not have the depth of talent required to take on the Western world on productivity alone. It therefore has no choice but to rely on a lower cost model.

This is not the government's fault and it is not the people's fault either. It is simply a stark reality. Trying to portion blame for the state of affairs does nothing to help the situation.

Haha,Peanuts King Ah Goh did claim that he was very worried if Singapore could not match NY's standard, what is Sydney?it is not in fucking PAP's eyes.
