What I heard is most women don't qualify for the blood iron count. Before I was discharged from hospital, I was tested for a full blood count and passed. But being prone to LBP, I was advised against donating blood again. I also heard from the nurse that I was administered blood tranfusion instantly on hospitalization because I was a regular donor on record. Otherwise, in case of emergency or shortage, a non-donor patient has to wait in queue or relatives directly donate. The other way is to pay full price, opt for Class A or pte. hospital. By the way, the blood donated isn't free to the recipient. There's a token charge, no very expensive though, considering it saves lives and they have to administer the donation, storage and transfusion processes. That can be paid by Medisave and/or Medishield.
not too sure about the details, bro.
only know me had been a regular donor since 17 years old, donated at least 33 times over these years, still going strong

My experience is Pinoys and Burmese not bad too. But yes, PRC nurses are the best. If, touch wood, you need to be hospitalized, pretend you can't speak English but only Chinese. Then you'll get PRC nurses assigned to you. Pinoys and Burmese nurses, nothing racial connotated, are quite cold as obviously here for the nursing diploma only. PRC nurses really show care and interest not only for their careers but also for the patients. As a patient, a patient can tell.
tips for blood donors, as soon as the nurse had retracted the needle, press hard on the gauze over the open wound to make sure that blood clot is formed properly. avoid carrying heavy items with the "holey" arm for the next day or so. hope this helps :p:p:p
