In this old video, an ex KGB agent talks about how the government brainwashes a a nation to meet its objective. This may be applicable in Singapore's concept and explains why the 60% refuses to change to an alternative, even with all the mistakes made. In fact, some are hopeful the current government will bring about necessary changes to improve the status quo, and after which they are happy to stay with the MIW.

The political gurus here may have a better take on this, but there seems to be there is some form of relevance to the sequence of events have been happening since GE2011.

Ideological subversion 4 steps of indoctrination -

1) demoralization -
a) this is why the opposition was to be destroyed at all cost, to be seen as weak, powerless and if possible a headless chicken running around. with a weak opposition, this is nicely supported by capable men and women of scholar material, intelligent and well schooled to run the country (at least that was the plan until voters this Elite group became seriously out of touch with the ground).

b) change the mindset and perception of reality - educating a generation to believe, follow and respect the that the government is the best and only choice (this is still being practised). The HDB asset program together with the GDP are the bragging rights and achievements of the 50 year old rule. This is why the GDP must be pursued at all costs. For property, if the value drops to 50% of what they are worth today, people will start having doubts and have huge unhappiness in following and supporting the current regime.

2) destabilization - economy which has been established in the longer term has been seen to escape unscathed in the 2008 economic crisis and current euro meltdown. Other governments admire the MIW because they are able to harness the huge reserve with no objection (except for KJ who was dismissed quickly) and tap on CPF funds.

3) crisis - was seen in the MRT breakdown, several racial runs in with foreign talent. The infrastructure has been a tricky balance to the huge population increase, which is why it has been repeated again that these are growing pains, necessary for growing the country's population to take care of both the aging population and increasing the nation's wealth. In the Confucian context, this is also known as "sacrificing individual self-interest for the good of the organization/country. the question begs, did the MIW create this crisis in the first place, or was it a simple matter of poor planning?

4) change of power, normalization and settling down - promises of goodies in the form of buses, investment in the overall infrastructure to cope with the population increase to meet the 7 million target. Although there has not been any change of power in the regime, there has been active efforts to correct all the recent problems, most notably the current National Conversation. and of course this makes you wonder, if the MIW has not been listening to the people so far, who have they been listening to so far?
