1. Cooking gas cylinder

I moved into my house on 1st Apr and the previous owner told me that there is still half a tank of gas left. While cooking noodle just now, I realised that until now, we have not changed a new tank. Basically, we cook an average of 7 times a week, each session lasting 10-20 minutes max as my wife cooks very simple dishes and we seldom boil soup. I'm surprised that half a tank of gas can last me for so many months.

2. Air Con Gas

The aircon man just topped up the gas somewhere in May or June but the damn thing is not cold again. How long should the gas actually last?

not too sure about the first question bro....but the aircon gas shld last much longer than that. Better check for leaks.

Yeah, I think so too. It's $40 a trip for the chinamen to come and just pump the gas.

Next time the aircon man comes, tell him "Opa Gangam Style" and do the dance.

seldom cook, only boil water or cook maggie mee. last 3-5mths.

u sure your stove use LPG gas cylinder? maybe your home connected to the national gas and u been paying by giro without noticing the gas charge?

as for aircon, i only refill gas two time since i brought the 4rm and that was 8yrs ago. sometime it not the gas but the aircon choke with dirt and cause the water to freeze instead of discharging out. the brand of the aircon also important, samsung and LG are the worst.

1. Use an induction cooker. Also, invest in a HappyCall double-sided pan.

2. Aircon sets these days are not made to last. This is called 'planned obsolescence'. Also, you should check for gas leaks and vacuum the filters. Lastly, don't switch on the aircon all the time. I can't remember the last time I've switched on the aircon. I only do it during extreme conditions (extreme haze, extreme heat etc.)

Actually I also suspected it could be pipe gas but was not hardworking enough to go creep into the cupboard. I'll check the PUB letter tomorrow as wife is the one paying every month.

As for the aircon, it's an old one that came with the flat. After the last top up of gas, it was strong and cold for the past 3 months. I think erection might be right about the leak.

Use pipe gas...

Change when aircon not cold...there is a maintenance schedule but I dun follow as I dun like strangers coming into the house unless necessary. Likewise I dun use cylinder gas for same reasons.

First time heard of Happycall pan. Shall go and google later. Only heard of happy pills :D

I also dont on the aircon a lot. Only on very hot days on when I need to make love. Our utility bill is about $130 every month for just 2 of us.

Me and the wife rarely cook at home.. Usually will cook a small meal once or twice a week.. Our gas tank usually can last 3 or 4 months.. But there was once when my mother in law stayed with us for a couple of weeks.. She and her maid cooked nearly every day.. On weekends she'll cook like as if there was a big feast in my house.. That gas tank only lasted for a couple of weeks..

Ok, I made an effort to check. I'm using cylinder and not pipe. The bloody cylinder still feels half full when I shook it just now. Double check my PUB bill and there is only Water and Electricity charges, no gas charges. Funny that the cylinder can last so long. Why like that ah???

The hose for the gas cylinder is hidden. Which means I can't see if it's connected to the stove. Could it be that the previous owner did not terminate or forgotten to terminate the gas services and did not realise it as it was on giro. Is the gas bill together with the electricity bill?

very easy to check for choke, on power of aircon, if first few minute cold then stop, open the filter cover, if see ice cover the filter, then it should be dirt choke the pipe.

but if from warm air come out when switch on, then it had to be leaks. Dont bother to repair, just get a new one as aircon rather cheap nowsaday. just dont buy korean, hitachi or mitsubishi maybe more expensive but they can last
much longer than other brands.

SPower bill should reflect elect, water and gas seperately inside one bill.

Thanks brother. It is warm air. So it confirm my suspicion that it's a gas leak. I am reluctant to change not because of the money but because the previous owner covered the pipes linking the rooms very nicely. To change the aircon would mean that I have to make a big mess at the walls again. I try to take a pic for you to see tmr.

Like that not bad. One tank $32 can last us 5 months. Cannot complain already. I'm just surprise why it last so long. Like what Zeddy said, if cook everyday, should last a few weeks only.

i understand as i also dont want to mess up the piping and wiring. my present aircon also come from the previous seller. It from National and a very old model which diffcult to find parts. The two original remotes already up lorry and i had to search high and low to find a comparable generic remote in order to use the aircon. if i change aircon, i might as well renovate both bedrooms.
