The RP risks becoming ‘my father’s party’ and ‘we thought of it first’ party. When Singaporeans were literally shocked by SDP’s unity candidate proposition, Kenneth chose to say that the RP proposed it first. At their rallies, they mention JBJ, they have his picture plastered over the stage backdrop. They sell books written by JBJ. The RP can either continue to be JBJ’s party or it can come out and be the Reform Party.
Jeyaratnam’s comments did him no favours. He mentioned discussions with WP to field him as a candidate, he mentioned the walkout of a large group of the party before the 2011 elections as sabotage; the RP Facebook pages’ administrator attacked commenters, he constantly mentioned his BA and MA from Cambridge; he claimed credit for Rivervale Plaza being a focus because he had commented on it; he claimed to be able to defeat Lee Hsien Loong and Tharman Shanmugaratnam in debates; he mentioned his efforts about stopping Singapore’s IMF loan[1]. There were so mistakes, it is difficult to know where to begin.
