It all boil down to money. Under apartheid South Africa had spl exemption for Japs, though yellow, were reclass as white. But not for Chinese.

i only met one japanese during my backpacking trips to australia, they got a very different feeling from most other people including asians, they are extremely soft spoken and polite and effiminate almost like bambi but at the same time very energetic and animated and expressive when they talk.they are also very neat and tidy and non intrusive so having a roomate full of japanese people is definitely better than having a room full of italians.
