The by-election in Hougang, caused by the expulsion of MP Yaw Shin Leong from the Workers' Party (WP), is a chance for the People's Action Party (PAP) to build support in the staunchest of all opposition-leaning wards, said MPs on Thursday.
'It's an opportunity to erode their win,' said one veteran MP of the PAP. 'The WP has messed up a couple of times already in the last few months.'
To do so, another ruling party MP suggested the PAP field a heavyweight candidate: 'Go big to show we are serious.'
The MPs declined to be named as party leaders had asked them not to be drawn into any mudslinging over the saga.

They people of Hougang will still vote for WP, the people of SINgapore need an alernative voice in parliament, the same breed, singing the same lyrics in different genre; won't do. Had we not Hougang & ALJ GRC, many of the changes or 'improvements' we see today, would not have happened, the people of SINgapore will be so stiffled. But, Yaw Shin Long was a disappointment, WP sill still get a support.
