Its a little known fact that when the Chinese took HKG back in 1997, they allowed 1 million mainlanders to move into HKG within a short time. Millions of PRC mainlanders were clamouring to move to HKG, it was like heaven for them. Imagine what impact a sudden influx of so many people will have on your property prices.

Similar to how Xing Jiang and Tibet were being treated. Once China took over the land, the first urgent task is to build properties, make it expensive for the native and allow PRC to buy and colonise the land. Unfortunately, Hong Kong wasn't spared.
