yaaaaa for onsen best and wife and I really don't mind to spend S$500-700 per night in a good one that usually comes with dinner and breakfast. I mean you're gonna be in enjoying their hotspring whole day there right so its not too much to pay la. A good place to look for one of them good ryokan is here

Don't you need to be able to speak Japanese if you want to stay in ryokan? I heard they only speak Japanese and most don't speak English.

I am aware of relatives of Japanese telling loved ones to leave Japan or stay away from all marine products. If you really must make kids happy by going to Japan, go to Kyushu like places like Fukuoka or Beppu or Kagoshima which are still ok for now. Radioactive waste and stuffs are slowly being dumped there. If you must drink milk. make sure it is the domestically produced ones and not those from large companies that mix all the shits in it.

Indeed, I'm not sure how much you know about Japanese culture, but taking a bath together in Japan is considered a very intimate experience. Only families, and very close friends will take bath together in an onsen.
