It only means your skills set are in higher demand and thus command a higher salary.

If there is no demand for rocket scientist, the rocket scientist will also be unemployed even though the rocket scientist may be the smartest in the world.

You think that retards can be rocket scientists? Any stinky Blanglas can do your retarded dead-end job.

As mentioned in the media, the investment in Indonesia, Thailand, US banks & brokerage houses all went wrong. Even the purchase of Khoo Teck Huat shares in Standchart was bought at the peak. Therefore it is amazing that there is a net profit of 18b amind financial turmoil.

How to "verify" their statements???? Was the account audited & verified by a third party or independent party???? OR is it just a statement released by Temasek themselves????

Dear Artard,
for every unsuccessful investment, there are 9 other wildly successful investments.

"...

QUICK: So you think the sovereign wealth funds are getting the raw end of the deal when they buy into some of the financials?

BUFFETT: I think that they are buying what is being sold to them, and in securities you should not buy what's being sold to you. You should buy what comes from your own analysis and looks the cheapest. The idea that somebody is going to come and call on you and say, you know, `Buy $2 billion worth--this is the best thing to buy in the world,' it isn't the best thing to buy in the world. The best thing to buy in the world is something that you've dug out and that people aren't talking about and that, you know, you find yourself. Securities that are being sold to you have a special push in it. Usually, there's extra commissions in them or all kinds of things. So I don't--I don't want to get ideas from other people, basically. I want to get ideas from a bunch of facts that I uncover someplace. "

Let us compare one financial stock owned by Buffett (WFC) and another purchased by Temasek (MerrillLynch, MER).

Some background info on Wells Fargo &Co (NYSE: WFC) :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wells_Fargo

Wells Fargo & Co. (NYSE: WFC) is a diversified financial services company in the United States with operations around the world. Wells Fargo is the 5th largest bank in the US by assets and the 9th largest bank in the world by market cap.[citation needed] It is the only bank in the United States to be rated AAA by S&P.[2]

Now for Merrill Lynch :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merrill_Lynch

Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. (NYSE: MER TYO: 8675) is a global financial services firm. Through its subsidiaries and affiliates, the company provides capital markets services, investment banking and advisory services, wealth management, asset management, insurance, banking and related financial services worldwide. Merrill Lynch is headquartered in New York City, and occupies the entire 34 stories of the Four World Financial Center building in Manhattan.

Now, let's analyze these two purchases. Ho Ching bought MER at $48 a share. It closed at $27.52 today. For the last 2 quarters MER has bled BILLIONS of dollars.

Warren Buffett purchased WFC stock in 1990 during the credit crisis. A look at Berkshire Hathaway's annual report http://www.berkshirehathaway.com/2007ar/2007ar.pdf (pg 16), shows that his stake is worth $9.16 billion with a cost basis of $6.67 billion.

In fact WFC is one of the few banks to remain profitable in this current climate, and they were the ones that sparked the DOW rally in mid-July. They also INCREASED their dividend payout to shareholders.

Now let's take a look at Warren Buffett's salary :US$100,000 per annum. A low figure for a CEO even by Singapore standards. Most of his wealth comes from stock capital gains and dividends.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_Buffett

Anyone can enlighten me on Ho Ching's salary, or even the management in Temasek? I bet my last penny that they draw salaries well in excess of US$100,000 a year.

Let's assume a conservative figure of US$600,000 (SGD$1,000,000). So Ho Ching is worth 6 Warren Buffett's. Outstanding!!

Ho Ching and her entire management team should be shown the door IMMEDIATELY and we should offer her job to Buffett.

I am no fan of Ho Ching. But if you want to compare, at least compare apple to apple.

Buffet's purchase in 1990 vs Ho Ching's purchase this year?

Compare the performace of Ho Ching's purchases 18 years later.
Or Wells Fargo performance x (how many months since Ho Ching's purchase?) months after his purchase.

I used the Wells Fargo example because that was a financial stock too. If you want to compare apples with apples, here you go http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2008/08/26/why-now-is-a-good-time-to-be-greedy.aspx

Within 12 months of his purchase, his investment returned 123%.

It's almost going to be 12 months since Ho Jinx made that purchase. Do you think she will get a 123% return??
Now you talking. Unlikely Ho Ching can make a 123% return anytime soon. I suppose we can continue this 18 years later

It means you are getting more out of the system, because you are earning more.

Till this PAPee apologist shows a copy of this bank account here, it's fair to assume that he's talking cock about his wealth and he's doing it as part of his job requirement.

Agree. This retard should show us his income tax assessments and let forummers see for themselves how much tax he has paid.

I wonder where the govt squeezed the S$10 billion for Temasek?

The usual fuzzy figures.... SGD185 less SGD164 is 21 billion.... out of which 10 billion comes from fund injection from the sgp govt....

so how did the SGD18 billion come about when it is only 11 billion and not stated how much this 11 billion is from overseas or from squeezing sgporeans....
where the miracle $ came from? my guess, ERP. just do simple assumption accounting.

300'000 cars/taxis on CTE to city in the morning pays average $9 bypassing 3 gantry. therefore, morning rush hour we're estimating 2.7million takings on CTE only. maybe throw in another 25% more, for all ERPs combined? amounting 3.375million in the morning. evening takings from ERP approx similiar. so, we're looking at est 6.75million per day. (not including afternoon ERP takings)

6 days of ERP operations x 52weeks in a yr = 312days.

conservatively, 6.75mil x 312days = 2.106billion (not including afternoon takings)

so there u have it. where did the $ come from
