HK actress Sheren Tang, 44, is still single
by Maureen Koh

HONG Kong actress Sheren Tang craves for a fairy-tale romance - the kind that exists only on the screen.

And the 44-year-old, who has been through several failed relationships, is now willing to wait for the perfect one.

In a phone interview with The New Paper last month from Hong Kong, she explained: "I've drifted in and out of love too easily in the past and ended up being hurt too often.

"And because I didn't know what love really was, I ended up slipping into depression for a few years."

Tang had previously dated veteran Hong Kong actor Alex Man.

She was also rumoured some five years ago to have been involved with actor Kwong Wah, who was married at the time.

Envious

Tang said she is envious of the love that exists between Sei Lai Lai - her character in the new TVB drama Rosy Business - and Chai Kau (played by veteran actor Wayne Lai).

It is currently airing on VV Drama (StarHub Ch 855) every Saturday and Sunday at 7pm.

Tang admitted: "It's the kind of love I've always craved - one that I've spent half my life searching for.

"I used to view love from a wrong perspective - in some ways, I wanted something to replace the love I never had from my parents as a child."

Tang's parents divorced when she was five and she was raised by her maternal grandparents, who died shortly after she entered showbiz at 18.

She added: "I need someone who can understand me - someone like Chai Kau.

"Love should be unconditional - I know that now. Loving someone does not mean you
have to possess the person."

Chai Kau does everything for Sei Lai Lai - his employer's fourth wife - despite knowing that theycan never be together. In the end, he's even willing to die for her.

In previous interviews, Tang had confessed to having dark thoughts when her relationships failed. But in recent years, she has "turned to God to rediscover" herself.

"We shouldn't date someone just because we feel lonely, just so we can fill up that void in our lives," she said.

The sleeper hit Rosy Business - which lacked sassy starlets and gorgeous hunks - swept six of the 15 awards up for grabs at the TVB 42nd Anniversary Awards last year.

Critics and fans have also attributed Tang's ease at slipping into her role to her cool and
strong demeanour in real life.

She said: "There are some similarities in our characters - we're both not the damsels in distress. But (Sei Lai Lai) is more revolutionary- I don't have the strength in dealing with difficult situations or times."

"Which is why, in some ways, I draw experience from my screen character and hope that if ever I face a similar situation, I'd know how to deal with it better."

Tang and Lai have been paired up again in the sequel Rosy Business 2: Righteous Sea Of Heroic Love.

Rumours of the pair dating had surfaced when Rosy Business first aired. She said: "I expect fresh media reports about our alleged affair to surface when the series airs (sometime at year end in Hong Kong).

"The good thing is, Wayne's wife and I are friends - and she's always made it clear that she enjoys watching us together because of our chemistry."

Tang was finally named Best Actress last year - her third nomination in the category. She lost to Gigi Lai in 2004 and Charmaine Sheh in 2006.

She said: "I think somewhere along the way, I stopped hoping for awards. When you get past that, life becomes easier.

"An award is like a dessert. It is wonderful to have, but not necessary. I can just get on with the main course - acting."

She added that she may write a book one day about her experiences.

She said: "Until that happens, I can only share through interviews - like this one. And that's good enough for now."

Is she a virgin ?

Fairy tale romance always involves a virgin, and then a Prince Charming.

Women should not speak about fairy-tale romance unless they're still virgin. The very concept of 'fairy-tale' means everything is pure. Even Prince Charming is gallant and righteous, not a womanizer hiding behind the wheels of a SLK.

The moment a woman has lost her virginity, the dream of a fairy-tale romance ends and she must acknowledge the reality of the 'used-market'. In a used market, fairy tales are very much 'manufactured'. How could women who marry a divorcee still think of it as a fairy tale romance ? The very Prince of that fairy tale was discarded by the ex-wife and women are deluding themselves.

Yes, your perspective coming from a woman is really superb. But when comes to relationship, I am rather open. I can even marry a woman who is a divorcee with kids, the most important as long as we can click!:-) Virginity is no longer an issue to me, I am not a virgin so I dun expect my wife be one, if she is, then it's a bonus:D

Btw, I am still looking for the right one...Hopefully soon!;)

With all due respect, Krafty. You're not 'open', just as men who wish for a chaste and virtuous wife are not 'closed' or old-fashioned. You're not open; you're honest because you know very well where you stand.

It's not case where virginity is no longer an issue to you; it's more like you're no longer relevant to the concept of a holy marriage. As you've correctly phrased it [in another thread], you're not looking for a virtuous wife; you're looking for a 'screwmate'.

The Malay kids in your neighbourhood kicking plastic balls can tell you when they grow up they want to represent Singapore in World Cup Finals. It doesn't matter if you think they're not good enough or that Singapore would never be good enough for World Cup Finals. They're kids; they're entitled to dream. It's their prerogative as kids - to dream.

The same Mats who are 20 or 30 something now playing Mikasa balls in an open field at the nearby neighbourhood school now tell you they want to play for Manchester United or Chelsea alongside Ryan Giggs and Didier Drogba. Well, what have you got to say about these Mats ?

The same with Sherren Tang dreaming of a fairy-tale romance.

some of you may think so but a normal man must have a family.
I very sian of going to places like KTVs, few years back, I thought it's a good venue for easing loneliness but now when I think back, it's quite silly. NOW, I will only go KTVs if it's a friend's stag nite. I have already experienced that kind of feeling so longer gian.

Women are the cutest thing on earth, thank god for creating them. Sometimes, i find it quite amusing when I observe their body language. hiao hiao, bitchy, demure, innocent wild, all types...yum... yum...

Ya, talking abt horniness, yesterday p.m. at Suntec saw one corporate lady in her late 20's, i think. she was wearing a pink, skin tight, thin blouse, can trace her body shape:o whoa lan eh, immediately marikita!:o:p Then my imagination ran wild for a while.:D:D:D

You such a despo, or horny, LOL :D:D:D

However, this few years, I have learnt a lot abt lots of things in life. I have ferried and talked to passengers including lawyers, doctors, psychiatrists, gangsters, prostitutes, foreigners, TV stars, pple from all walks of life.

I really dun mind divorced women with kids but my priorities she must be matured and kind hearted so that I will dote on her.;)

Mature? There are quite a few at Desker Road.

Base on your account, I assume you are a taxi driver? I doubt that the chance is high if you are trying to hit on your passengers. You have higher chance with social events, or even match making agencies.

I am serious, my wife and I met because of the biggest match making agency in Singapore, SDU. Maturity does not really play much part (I am damn childish person), it is more of compatibility and muture respect that makes our relationship works.
