Someone has to do the dirty work. While other countries arrange talk fests to condemn terrorism, the USA actually takes concrete steps to blow up their sorry asses.

George W Bush and his father exterminated more muslim terrorists in the last 20 years than all the other presidents combined over the last couple of centuries. For that, I am forever grateful

I'd have to agree with Leongsam again on this one. Why would anyone unless terrorists or siding terrorists worry about US going to war against terrorists and terrorist states? Singapore NW line would have been broken into two at Yishun if not for CIA intelligence. Can Singapore go to Pakistan and Afghanistan to gather such intillegence linking back to Indonesia and Singapore? Can US do that in a strictly non-violent way? The violence and war are necessary beside diplomacy as they were randomly and ruthlessly violent and murderous in the first place.

and there lies the problem. there are those who are marginalized, misguided and malignant, yet powerless. it is in these fractious groups that all or nothing go for broke terrorism springs up. when they have no power, they want it via violence and terror.

True, that's still terrorism nevertheless but they had specific objectives limited to what they wished to claim and imposed on others no more once objectives or compromises were arrived at. The big difference was that they didn't export terrorism world. The terrorists in the Middle East export and finance terrorism all around the Islamic world in the name of the religion.

In the meantime, perpetually neverending meantime, they were quarreling, fighting and terrorizing among the different sects and countries themselves. Terrorism has become an international industry for them, not a means to an end anymore. Without the US delivering crippling blows at their centers of power, the world would have been a far much worse and dangerous place, as Leongsam has pointed out. In fact, peaceloving moderates and clear-mindeds in the Middle East should be and are thanking the US too.
