Highly qualified risk manager who earns $11K replaced by FTrash

He was just retrenched and armed with a severance package, he has some financial back-up as he went about to look for a job.

Financial backup will not help for long as cost of living is not low here.

That's the age old excuse losers use for achieving nothing in their lives. Many Singaporeans with humble backgrounds and no connections whatsoever have become very successful in their own right.

I agree with your sentiments, but batman1 has a point. It isn't the meritocratic utopia that the PAP paints it to be.

However one shouldn't be expecting to find it any different elsewhere. High value jobs are truly about who you know. I reckon an average citizen would probably feel that the PAP has given them a shot at greatness, prior to the FT deluge.

Nathan is not making millions anymore.

Does anybody feels sorry for him?

John is also one of the rare few PMETs whom I have met who only reproached himself for his unemployment situation and I have never hear him blame anyone for his plight – not even the easy-target government.

[/I]

Quite clearly he and his kin voted for the PAP. He felt secure with his $11K salary and cannot be bothered about politics nor national issues. May he have a long and painful search for a job.

Ppl like him couldn't care less when he sees old citizens going thru the rubbish in search of salvage.

I could care less for these kinds of selfish ppl. He truly deserves who he voted for.

It's quite common in Spore for people to turn a blind eye if they are not personally affected. Things will only get worse with the arrival of new citizens because they have no ties or kinship with Spore.

So when I heard about the abuse at the retirement home I wasn't surprised that the abuse was by 'foreigners'.

This affected person was a risk manager.

Clearly, the ethos of one whose professional activities involve managing risk, is to embrace risk and overcome markings brought about by uncertainties.
He should very well understand that the concept of probability of loss or default, extends into retrenchment i.e. personal income loss, the likelihood of
such event occurring, and have some mitigating plan around this event.

Its stated in the article that his house is fully paid for, so whats the worry?

I am not concerned with those who earn so much, surely they are smart enough to sort things out

I am more concerned about those who make $1,100 not $11,000

The high earner of yesterday need not be edged out if the playfield is level n gahmen gives handicap to home grown talent ......... why must FTs come in to steal posh jobs away? If we can't get these jobs, what is the point of being citizens, do NS, etc incl be nice to FTs, new immigrants - WTF. Vote out this lousy gahmen!!

I was in a GLC. Having completed a series of interviews I selected 7 engineers excluding one whose father was Sr MOS. After 2 weeks my Chairman got a phonecall from the SMOS .... rest was history: his son got hired! The invisible hand of meritocracy was at work - fast n efficient!!

O got the balls to deny him but became a marked man ....... just quit after the going got tougher. Lucky there were more jobs around than takers!

I learn from the govt. I am opening the doors for all kinds foreigners into Singapore and into the Singapore govt. They will love what they get.

First they came up with the FT policy,
and I didn’t speak up,
because my job was secure.

Then they came for my local boss's job,
and I didn’t speak up,
because my job is still secure.

Then they came for my local colleagues,
and I didn’t speak up,
because my job is still secure.

Then they came for me,
and by that time there was no one
left to speak up for me.

Must also 'kelong' the annual staff appraisal reports. Happened many times in the SPF. No scholar to get 'B' rating. Must be "A". My colleague was ordered to amend his rating of an OMS in the early 90s. Best of all, my colleague's assessment of this OMS was spot on. OMS had to resign to avoid national embarrassment years later.
