I've started to add flaxseed oil to my diet which is a healthy source of omega3. It's good for those who have cardio vascular problems,

While looking around I came across the Budwig Diet which is from a German biochemist. This diet has shown some success against breast cancer. However if you want to follow the diet, you should expect to spend up to 5 years on this diet

The only way is to be your own boss. I have been stressed and bullied by different superior for years. At one stage I thought I needed to see psychologist due to emotional stress. Now I decided to look life forward, money is not everything, or at least I know it has been locked up by PAP at their disposal. They happy, Singaporeans suffer. Thus this country will be happy again if PAP is voted out.

This is the trade-off happy losers have to bear: being despised by rapacious capitalists who would sell off their mothers for a profit. It's all a matter of priorities.

Be extra careful with your drugs and supplements purchase.

According to US and Canadian Customs, about US$40 billion worth of counterfeit of popular brand drugs and supplements are being flooded into the world market annually.

In Spore you usually get prescription drugs from the doctor & pharmacies. The consumers has little control over the source, counterfeits or otherwise.

If you go to LOS, Malaysia,..must be very careful . With popular drugs like viagara you have the problem of generics to counterfeit.

With supplements you have to be aware that reputation of the company is very important. Some dubious companies might under pack, not providing the amount stated on the bottle. While reputable companies are unlikely to cut corners & risk their reputation.

You're likely to start having prostate problems from the 40's :(

Suggest you look at a product with formulas that includes Saw Palmetto. Sometimes herbs work better synergistically with other ingrdients.

I would never buy generic products from Unity. Same reason I avoid NTUC's house brands. Companies that provided these house brands are fulfilling a tender contract. The motive is to maximise $$$ at the expense of quality.

Whereas when I buy a branded supplement, the company is unlikely to risk their reputation providing sub-standard goods

Don't know about prostate cancer.

It's better to take preventive step before it gets that bad.

That's why I recommend at a minimum that everyone takes a good multi-vitamin. Then supplement if you have a need,

In Jan 07 my family doctor diagnosed me for High Blood Pressure and gave me a prescription. After a month, same level, and he gave me another prescription (on top of the existing one.) I listened to him, and when I walked out of his office I tore up the prescription. I started walking and swimming regularly and rented DVD comedies whenerever I could. In Jun/Jul 08 I was in Sg and visited my old doctor; he checked my blood and it was okay.

My wife is a breast cancer survivor and she takes care of our diet. Other than the kid (who eats junk) we both take fish, veggies, grain and fruit as regular diet. Once in a while we pigout, especially with friends on occassion. I still booze up. The only pills I take are fibre tabs.

When you gotta go, you gotta go.

I remember when I started to work at this MNC I went for a company sponsored health check. The doctor suspected I had high sugar levels. I didn't follow up & 15 years later diabetes caused my blocked arteries :(

If I had found out earlier I would have cut down on the coke, pepsi, taken supplements & might have avoided diabetes & heart problems

When you get to a certain age you have to be more careful about your health. Early detection improves the chances of avoiding complications.

The use of supplements can be used to improve one's health & although we all have to go eventually, it can delay & determine the quality of life when you go

Since I've decided to add flax seed oil to my diet I've checked with the GNC & Natures Farm outlets in Spore. Both these chains do not have any stock. :(
Never expected it would this difficult to source healthy oils. It's no wonder there are so many Sporeans with health problems.

So I've ordered from the US Udo's Oil DHA 3-6-9-blend.

I was only able to order one 500ml litre bottle because of the limitation of delivery by US post. Shipping only cost is only $4 & took 9 days to reach Spore.

On the box it states that you can freeze the oil to maintain the oils freshness longer. In the future I'll use delivery by DHL & get a few of the bigger bottles & store it in the freezer.

In my opinion while the Udo oil blend is not distasteful, it's not as tasty as the flax seed with highest lignan. It lacks the nutty flavour. The Barlean is a flax only oil.

However the Udo blend is a more complete oil, with oils from flax,sunflower,sesame, primrose, algae, coconut, rice bran, soy leicithin, rosemary, oat bran,...That's alot of different oils.

Actually I don't have cancer, only a heart/diabetes problem. While looking for solutions to my problem I often come across remedies people are taking for cancer.

I suspect that many of the factors causing heart, diabbetes also contribute to cancer.

One of the major causes is that people are being poisoned by transfat oil & over processed oil that increases shelf life but is detrimental to the health.

In fact even if you are healthy you should seriously consider avoiding all transfats & reduce your intake of processed oils & instead increase your intake of cold pressed oils like flax seed oil.

New pill for advanced prostate cancer patients

SINGAPORE - For the first time in Singapore, a new oral treatment is available for advanced stage prostate cancer patients who are not responding well to chemotherapy.

Approved by the Health Sciences Authority, the pill Zytiga (Abiraterone acetate) is to be taken once a day.

Zytiga has been shown in global clinical trials to extend the survival of test subjects by 4.6 months, said its developer Janssen, a pharmaceutical company under Johnson&Johnson.

It was also shown to improve the quality of life in patients whose cancer has spread beyond the prostate gland after failed chemotherapy.

Zytiga works by uniquely blocking an enzyme involved in the production of testosterone in the testes, adrenal glands and the tumor itself.

Prostate cancer is the third most common cancer and the sixth leading cause of death among Singaporean men.

Research shows that Singapore men have a one in 37 chance of developing prostate cancer in their lifetime and that more than 500 men are diagnosed with this disease each year.

The cancer is usually found in ageing men, aged 60 years and above. By 2030, the number of patients diagnosed is expected to increase as one in five Singaporean residents will be aged 65 and above.

Hence, Singapore doctors are encouraging ageing men to seek early medical advice if they experience pain, discomfort or other symptoms during urination.

Dr Sim Hong Gee, Director of Urologic Oncology at the Singapore General Hospital, expressed concerns that there is still a worrying trend of ageing men in Singapore delaying their first diagnosis to only after their prostate cancer has advanced.

"Unfortunately, they are only coming to us at the advanced stages of prostate cancer," he said.

Dr Sim advised that early detection and treatment can prevent the advancement of the cancer and avert the painful and debilitating impact of late-stage prostate cancer.

Men should have on-going discussion with their health care providers as when prostate cancer is diagnosed early; it is often confined to the prostate gland itself and may be easier to treat, say doctors.

If delayed, the cancer may metastasise, or spread, to other parts of the body such as the bones, lungs and liver.

Bone metastases are a common, painful and potentially debilitating consequence and can severely impact the patients' qualify of life.

When combined with prednisone or prednisolone, Zytiga has been shown to effectively reduce pain and symptoms in certain men with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer.

Dr Chau Noan Minh, Medical Oncology Consultant at the National Cancer Centre Singapore, said that local patient experience has been largely positive.

"We have observed that the side-effects of abiraterone were well-tolerated, and where they occurred, were manageable. Those patients who responded felt an improvement in their quality of life," said Dr Chau.

Oldies but goodies thread!
Have been abusing my body for decades due to excessive smoking, drinking, no exercises, fatty food, high chloresterol food and etc. Know some day, I am going to be haunted by one of these bad habits.

Have been trying to eat at home as much as possible and cut down on oily food. Have switch to wholewheat bread recently. Hopefully not too late. Ciggies and drinking....umm...contemplated quitting but just too much for me...hehehehe.
