It is no news that MRT breaks down these days, and trapping passengers inside.

Rather that when we have a stretch of days during which MRT don't breakdown it will be a news!

:eek::*::mad::rolleyes:

Time again for Lui Tuck Yew to consider resignation, it does not help to drag the by-election at all.

UNACCEPTABLE? So where is the resignation letter? Signed yet?:confused:

Resignation is definitely Acceptable Admiral Lui!

Resignation solves no problems. Since he no porno religious minister, make him work for his pay. What you need is a proper technocrat analysis first before we look at the money. When we look at the money, we need a person trained in engineering economy. Then if it looks bad, we need to have someone to spin the numbers to make it work. No bookkeeper type analysist. Then we go for tender where we either make sure the fucked local contractors and fake foreign consultants cannot make the mark or tell them we are enforcing the latent defect clause which is retro, interest compounded and we will chase you all the way to hell if you substitute stainless steel with 3rd grade PRC galvanized steel (PRC can of course produce 1st grade stuff if they want to but it is resource intensive for a country with too many mouths). He should be able to read through the simulation and study results with numbers as can the PM. No more gangster asshole contractors and dog licking mother fucker servants who screwed the country. Fire those fuckers.

He is stubborn and clueless.

Reducing the load on MRT is inevitable and there is still no sign of alternative travelling modes for commuters.

He ought to be sacked and go back to porning. Resignation is too lenient for this obstinate ass.

Lui dare not pull his take bus nor MRT ride stunt any more!

Because chances are much higher these days for him to be found in a trapped train or broken bus!

Passengers detrained from stalled LRT train

The 11 affected passengers had to walk back to station via an emergency walkway

Updated 11:57 PM Apr 22, 2012

SINGAPORE - 11 Passengers on the Bukit Panjang Light Rapid Transit (BPLRT) Service A train had to be detrained and walked the rest of the way to a train station this afternoon.

SMRT said in a press release that the Service A train service at the BPLRT stalled about 4.45pm before it entered the BP13 Senja station. This caused a disruption to BPLRT Service B for nine minutes from 5.11pm to 5.20pm to facilitate Service A's detrainment.

SMRT said one train was in operation when BPLRT Service A was disrupted and stalled. Within five minutes, SMRT staff was on site to attend to 11 passengers on board the affected train. The air conditioning and lights remained on throughout the ordeal.

"Accompanied by our rovers, the 11 passengers were safely detrained and walked on a 1.5-metre wide emergency walkway for about 150 metres to BP13 Senja," said an SMRT spokesperson. "This walkway is safe and is regularly used by our staff for maintenance work."

Passengers on board another train had to be detrained at BP6 Bukit Panjang so that their train could be used to push out the stalled train.

BPLRT Service C resumed operations at 5.40pm and Service A resumed at 7.15pm said SMRT.

Announcements were made at all BPLRT stations in English, Mandarin, Malay and Tamil and via Twitter to update commuters throughout the incident. SMRT Staff were also deployed at affected stations to assist passengers.

SMRT apologises for the inconvenience caused.

Following the most recent spate of train disruptions, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and SMRT have formed a team to investigate the cause of the problems.
Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew told reporters on Saturday that the panel of experts assembled by the regulator and the rail operator will systematically go through the MRT network to identify what went wrong during the recent train breakdowns, which the minister said were 'not acceptable'.
Mr Lui said he had summoned SMRT chairman Koh Yong Guan and chief executive officer Tan Ek Kia on Thursday after trains broke down on four days in the space of a week.
'I wanted them to hear from me that I was gravely concerned over the recent spate of disruptions,' he said.

UY,
Not acceptable. He is an Admiral. If he walks from this, what can you expect of him during war? As an admiral, there is no such thing as fence sitting.
He must hold the position, not sit on the fence, think of short, middle and long term strategy of holding down the assets at minimum cost and lost.
I DO NOT EXPECT ANY RUBBISH OF RESIGNING DUE TO PERSONAL REASONS AND BITCHING ON A BLOG. IF YOU WANT TO DO THIS I CONSIDER AS BREAKING
SCHOLARSHIP BOND IN SGP AND I EXPECT FULL REFUND, INCLUDING INTEREST PLUS ALL ASSETS BOUGHT AND GIVEN, RETRO ALL THE WAY TO THE BEGINNING PLUS
MP SALARY AND BONUS, INTEREST AND INFLATION ADJUSTED. Do the job and get it done. You are in a political position to solve problems and as military personnel, you cannot walk away from the battle. You know what it means when it comes to loyalty to your nation.

To be fair to Lui Tuck Yew, he inherited the problems from his predecessors namely Mah Bow Tan and Yeo Cheow Tong. Through years of neglect by Mah and Yeo, the problems are now too deep-setted to be rectified within a short span of time.

I know quite a few engineers who were once with either MRTC, LTA and SMRT. According to them, the officers then had been submitting plans after plans for a robust maintenance regime including regular changing of essential parts and systems during Mah and Yeo's time. Unfortunately, their plans were rejected soundly each time or cut down in size and scope with the two ex Transport Ministers blasting them for being too extravagrant.

The final straw was Ho Ching's appointment of Saw Phaik Hwa. In appointing Saw, Ho Ching told her that she was not appointed to drive trains (Saw actually repeated this to reporters at SMRT press conference on her appointment as CEO). Instead she was instructed by Ho Ching to focus on building up the revenue from SMRT's retail outlets. Saw therefore hardly spent any time on the rail operations and the operational staff were largely ignored. This led to mass resignations of operational staff, some of which are the engineers who related all these to me. Saw then start filling up SMRT with her own people from the retail sector and who know nothing about rail operations. Little if at all, was any attention paid to the rail operations, whom Saw thought is self running. All these culminated into what we have today, train failures day after day.

The real culprit is actually none other than Ho Ching. It was she who shifted SMRT focus away from rail operations to retail. It was she who appointed Saw PH, a totally non-technical person to run SMRT. It was she who told her she was not appointed to drive trains, thereby giving her courage to ignore the train operations.

The list of witnesses for the Committe of Inquiry contains all the names connected to the train disruptions, all except for the one, and ironically it is the one who is most responsible. As with all her previous failures such as Temasek's massive losses during the financial crisis (amounting to billions of taxpayers monies), she has immunity.

If what you say is true, MBT YCT and HC must be fully exposed to the public. There will be no immunity, trust me. Immunity is in the mind. Law is not God either and there are many types of laws.

Lui is not responsible for these things. These are the result of poor maintenance over many years that has come home to roost.

Lui however is either born unlucky or a magnet for disaster. The Navy's biggest disaster was under his watch. Also during the last GE, he was chased out of a Condo by a resident and for a cabinet minister its really silly. To compound the matter, he lodged a police report when he was the one that actually trespassed without authority. When the resident responded online on explained what he did, he quietly tried to make it a non-event by suggesting that he only made a report for record purposes. The last incident tells you how poor a cabinet minister is about the law, the lack of common sense, the type of people he surrounds himself.

In essence, don't hold you breath.

Of course he is not responsible for the breakdowns and the poor maintenance but he definitely failed as a minister for transport.

Other than taken a few rides on the MRT, he is still clueless as what the main cause is.

No corrective measures taken to date except the on-going COI which will eventually leads to more regimental preventive maintenance

No amount of maintenance could move a pickup if you load an elephant on it

Seems like he is more interested in protecting the SMRT's revenue by refusing to introduce a parallel bus route to alleviate the overcrowding and overloading problems.

He neither exhibit nor react with any sign of urgency to mitigate these problems

It is then the responsibility of Lui to revoke the operating licenses of these fucked up and UNSAFE + UNRELIABLE public transportation services, and after prolonged and continued failure to fix these issues, Lui should add his own resignation letter on the pile of resignation letters which should be on his desk!

Eleven people were trapped in a stalled LRT train between the above-ground Bukit Panjang and Senja stations yesterday.
Operator SMRT said that a train fault between the stations had disrupted service at about 4.45pm, with one train operating on the affected service then.
The trapped passengers were evacuated from the train and walked for about 150m on a 1.5m-wide emergency walkway to Senja Station. They were helped by SMRT staff and Singapore Civil Defence Force officers.
A netizen posted on citizen-journalism site Stomp that a station announcement was made on how there was no train in service due to a "faulty train".
SMRT has apologised for the inconvenience caused.

no one resigns in Singapore.

Well Steffy, sadly that statement is true.

Over here, unlike Japan (a Nation we learned tremendously from) those below are hld accountable.

Unlike Japan, who willing commit harakiri, here people in top position can forgive the supposed defendant.

He will step down, quieten for a while and slowly find a top gun job overseas.

A poor NSmen who looses a bullet is made to go through hell, whereas an Admiral who caused so much disasters is allowed to walk tall.

Welcome to Uniquely Singapore. Have a great day

Hello! use your brain lah!

You need him to bring down more GRCs come GE2016. Moreover PAP has run out of getting better 'tea party' recruits and their only sources now
come from SAF generals.

We need more generals in the SAF lah! Why not suggest to LHL to recuit his son LYH .... hehehe. LYH is also under tax-payers money SAF scholarhships, I believe, and time to tell them time to pay back the tax-payers money he used on his funded tax-payers money studies.

Kong ei gam boh! 这样说可以吗?

Hello UY and Frens,

I would like to put an alternative spin to this. Firstly No Porn Lui is in a ministerial 'hot potato' but if he wants to put things right he can with the blessings of the PM. Over in Spore, as Minister or PAP MP is fucking big fuck. However AH Lui does not want to solve the problem cos he might offend LHL as I find any PAP MP or Minister who is popular will sure get shown the door as they might overthrow LHL.

To solve the problem is easier for Ah Lui as PAP is a dominant party and can do what it wants. So it can do what it wants for the good of the people or against the people.

Firstly change the rules or the tpt company. Split the operations of the MRT and bus operations. MRT and buses compete with each other to provide better services for the people. that way we reduce on overcrowded trains as people can take buses. If there is more efficiency in public tpt, cars would not be in such high demand.

Improve bus services on a needs for the people basis and not cost basis. I mean also efficiency and KPIs must be in place, Dont want buses running in places where there is no demand.

Cap the earnings of the transport company, promote efficiency, its a gahmen monopoly anyway. So maybe for buses add in total operations cost and replacement for buses, maintainance etc than we will know the real cost and divide it with the number of commuters and set the price. Factor in maybe 2% increase per year. Tell the TPT company shareholders to get fucked,,,no more increase dividend by fucking commuters over. (ie that means nationalisation)

For the MRT, do a total review on the conditions of the lines etc..expert engineering review without the commercial profiteering bullshit and that find out how much need to be spent and work out the whole thing. HK is a good example we can follow.

Since everyone keep saying, Singapore is small with alot of people, an improved Public TPT system will benefit the people and increase productivity, keep inflation down, there will be many flow on effects to the economy and society.

Any other ideas any one can add please do.

The problem is this will never happen becos of the rent seeking behavior of the Pappies.

If the system is nationlised and profits cap. the blood sucking glcs will loose heaps.

If the system becomes better and more efficient there will be less demand for cars and the gahmen loose out on COE, fuel tax, ERP etc

If Ah Lui just use his commonsense (if he is any) and push through the changes, he will be hated by PAPPIes and the oligarchs and if he becomes popular cos everyone is saying he did a good job, he can be inline for the next PM and LHL will loose face. Remember one cannot be popular if not LHL come after u.

Too me, the system will never improve as there is too many vested interest that benefits from the existing system.

Agree 冰冻三尺,非一日之寒, the culprits are RL and SPH. That said, I'll give LTY two years to solve the problem.

The same two years NSmen have to serve NSF. I think that's fair enough.
