Halimah Yacob: I will listen to workers

Exemplifying uselessness, President Halimah Yacob told state media reporters that she has just launched a “new initiative” to listen to workers. The favourite pet of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong started off giving a grand speech about “embracing, supporting and appreciating” workers :

“A new initiative will be launched to show appreciation to workers who have toiled quietly behind the scenes to contribute to Singapore’s growth. The idea is that there are a lot of workers doing a lot of work behind the scenes and people don’t see them, people don’t know about them, but they are quietly contributing strongly to Singapore and Singaporean’s welfare. I would like to…embrace our workers, give them the support, give them appreciation, because Singapore’s growth and development is possible only because our workers…have contributed to it significantly.”

After the lips service, Halimah Yacob offered nothing constructive and merely said she will “listen” to the workers:

“I have been meeting up with workers in the healthcare, transport and social work sectors, since becoming President in September 2017. The new initiative will be an expansion of these sessions.”

Sitting next to former army general and PAP Minister Ng Chee Meng, the former PAP MP of 20 years then stated that the Singapore workforce are very “positive” about the economy, which recently posted a 3.4% quarterly crash in the latest GDP result:

“Generally the mood is very positive because they can still see that there are jobs created. They also understand that there is a strong pipeline of investments that we have because Singapore as a country is still very much valued for its opportunities that we provide investors.”

Halimah Yacob has been silent on the financial losses at Temasek Holdings, which posted only a 1.49% returns and undeclared losses estimated at S$8 billion for the year of 2018.
