I LOL'ed at the twits who bemoan the lack of 'Asian values'.
It was Asia which gave us the Kama Sutra, Jin Ping Mei and Japanese shunga. So much for Asian values.
How true. Sexual repression was imposed on Asian nations by the European colonisers. Christianity has always equated sex with the Fall of Man, an act that's at once sinful yet necessary for procreation.
People equate Western values with the sexual permissiveness. They forget that Western sexual revolution took place less than 50 years ago. During the Victorian period just a century ago, Westerners were about the most prudish and priggish people. Table legs had to be covered up so that they'll not elicit impure thoughts. Young girls slept with their hands tied to bedposts so that they couldn't touch themselves. Chastity belts were a frequently used implement, and chaperones were required when a young lady travelled.
On the other hand, the ancient Indian and Chinese people have been celebrating their sexuality for millennia. The kama sutra dates back to 400 B.C. The Taoist HeQi on 'spiritual sex' dates back to early Han, while the Jin Ping Mei dates back to Ming. Sex was seen to be a natural part of life, never shameful, but to be incorporated holistically into daily living for good physical, mental & spiritual health (in addition to procreation).
