I think this shows fantastic foresight by MINDEF. In a firefight, all our boys have to do is to throw their Ipads in front of the enemy, and when the enemy soldiers scramble and fight each other for the Ipads, we will shoot the commie bastards in the back!


SINGAPORE (AFP) - New recruits to Singapore's military, air force and navy are to get a new standard-issue item of equipment besides their rifle -- the iPad.

The defence ministry said Monday it will be issuing "about 8,000" of the sleek, touch-screen tablet computers -- already wildly popular with the city-state's tech-savvy youth -- to recruits from November.

The ministry said it was also planning to issue the devices to other servicemen next year. The cheapest iPad2 device currently retails in Singapore for Sg$668 ($538).

Defence chief Neo Kian Hong said adopting the iPad would allow the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) to take advantage of the technological abilities of the city-state's youth.

"By exploiting the use of popular and current information and communications technology, we are able to harness our advantage of today's technologically savvy servicemen," the Straits Times newspaper quoted him as saying.

Troops can use the iPad's built-in camera to take photos and video clips in the field which can be uploaded to the SAF's online platform, LEARNet. Soldiers can use these photos and videos to carry out post-mission assessments, the newspaper said.

Soldiers can send questions to their commanders through a live messaging system and group chat discussions can be held, it added.

The SAF said it was working with private contractors to design apps -- micro-programs tailor-made for mobile devices with a wide range of functions -- for servicemen.

Singapore maintains a conscript-based military and its armed forces are among the best-equipped in Asia. Every able-bodied male citizen and permanent resident aged 18 and above must undergo two years of military training.

Yes, ammo is still 5.56 and interchangeable. Hell, I would even settle for their bullpup, the Steyr AUG. Its lighter than SAR-21. One bullpup for another.

SAF has I am afraid the world's most UNFIT Soldiers, physically and mentally. The clear and undeniable evidence widely available online. The problem starts from their TOP GENERALS all the way down to their last RECRUIT. This is intense and worsening problem.

iPad is a reflection of their weakness and DEPENDENCIES on EQUIPMENTS. Any hardware / software are unable to make up the Unfitness of SAF due to Physical & Mental weakness.

famiLEE LEEgime's spending on Equipment only cultivated more false believes and false confidence, which will only bring SAF Much FURTHER Apart from any REALISTIC & NECESSARY Solutions. This is alike spending on better toilets or building more toilets can not solve your own constipation problem. Golden Toilet also can not help.

iPad is a waste of money in SAF just like too many other equipments.

History taught us very well that the primary #1 weapon with all soldiers is FIGHTING SPIRIT, which SAF has NONE. Weapons are no substitute to this basic.

Today's best soldiers are the Talibans, who had consecutively (and non-stop ) beat 2 superpowers - Soviet & USA. Obama is this week withdrawing and talking peace with Taliban. The Talibans' weapons and equipments are the world's simplest and cheapest. They fought with the most basics, that is their willingness to fight and die and they know their enemies fears. They paid their prices and they drove enemies out of their national lands.

Viet Gong & North Koreans are also poorly armed but beat superpower USA. British were superior armed and build for defence but lost to the Japs.

SAF's big mistakes began with USA, that the stupid Yankees misled themselves to false believe in expensive high-tech weapon, beginning right from their 1st day with Atomic bombs which they nuked Japs. Ever since the atomic bombs US soldiers began losing their balls (& spirit) & counted on weapons and equipments. They began to lose their brains & spirits worst after Vietnam defeats. They started to smoke drugs. Wrongly counting further on weapons & equipment to mislead Ah Gua to think bold like GI Joe.

PRC also followed US mistake not just LKy's SAF, that they started to forget how their forefathers fought, and entered into arm-race / equipment race with USA. This is rubbish! They need to put soldiers to frontline to die and learn from there.

The United States did not lose the war in Vietnam. The South Vietnamese Govt collapsed after the U.S. Congress cut off funding. The South Vietnamese ran out of fuel, ammunition and other supplies because of a lack of support from Congress while the North Vietnamese were very well supplied by China and the Soviet Union.

The fall of Saigon happened 30 April 1975, two years after the American military left Vietnam. U.S. President Richard Nixon started planning troop withdrawals after Tet 68, which was a major military defeat for the Vietcong. The American military did not lose a battle of any major consequence in Vietnam.

hehe... same idea. a three round burst of HE from the 25mm brushmaster then leap out of the bionix to grab the M4 before other troopers get their hands to it. SAF officers still believe the bullshit about the SAR21 while most reservists i know still prefer the M16A1.

its heavy, cumbersome and awkward. Not the kind of weapon i want to take when excuting a fire movement, remember if it is easy and focus to shoot at your enemies, they are also finding it easy to focus and shoot at you. Targets at ranges do not fire back, mats north and south of us do.
