ON DEC 26, residents in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 were met with a grim sight - a dead dog, blood on its paws and mouth, at the void deck of Block 415 near Teck Ghee Community Club.

Surrounded by pillows, the light brown terrier cross-breed bore signs of trauma to its head, going by an initial examination by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

It has put out an appeal for witnesses and more information.

SPCA executive officer Deirdre Moss, describing the circumstances of the death as suspicious, said: 'It looks like it was somebody's pet.'

The dog did not have a collar when it was found, nor was it microchipped.

Cruelty to animals is a punishable offence here. Anyone found guilty of this - including abandonment - can be jailed for up to 12 months, fined up to $10,000, or both.
