Meantime, enjoy the pics, taken on Jan 19th in Changchun in bone-chilling cold of -20ºC. Changing costumes must be a challenge.

Much smaller surface area–volume ratio for the face (and head) than for the limbs, ditto less heat loss to the surroundings. That's why the first place to get frost-bitten is always the toes and fingers. Then the tip of the nose and the ears.

it's because the mongoloid face has gone through tens of thousands of years of natural selection in the siberian cold living off elk, covering the body with elk fur, but leaving the face exposed for herding and hunting. those with fat on their faces survive the cold and get to pass down their fat face genes.

Not just the face, but the entire body. Smaller noses and eyes, flatter and broader faces reduce risk of frostbite. As well as shorter limbs and smaller hands and feet (cf Negroids with the longest limbs and Caucasoids with intermediate limbs).

Desmond Morris does a good job of describing evolutionary changes due to climate for the layman in The Naked Ape​.
