But only Chinese Rocket Army is known to be capable of targeting moving warships with ballistic missiles in the world now. Ships can move quite a few nautical miles during the duration of missile trajectory time, without ability to track the targets and command missiles to follow their new positions, until strike moment, it will be wasteful otherwise to launch at a target that far away.

Amagi, capsized in Kure harbor, 1946

With the advent of heavier-than-air flight, the aircraft carrier has become a decisive weapon at sea.[1] In 1911 aircraft began to be successfully launched and landed on ships with the successful flight of a Curtiss Pusher aboard USS Pennsylvania.[2] The British Royal Navy pioneered the first aircraft carrier as floatplanes, as flying boats under performed compared to traditional land based aircraft.[3] The first true aircraft carrier was HMS Argus,[2][4] launched in late 1917 with a complement of 20 aircraft and a flight deck 550 ft (170 m) long and 68 ft (21 m) wide.[4] The last aircraft carrier sunk in wartime was the Japanese aircraft carrier Amagi, in Kure Harbour in July 1945. The greatest loss of life was the 2,046 killed on Akitsu Maru—a converted passenger liner with a small flight deck, carrying the Imperial Japanese Army's 64th Infantry Regiment.

This forum can not attach more than 50 images so I need to break the list into 2 parts.

Which shows that there are more than 50 sunken aircraft carriers. These were mainly sunken by torpedoes and WW2 dive bombers instead of missiles.

Huge ships are too easy to detect and track these days. No way to dodge missiles and torpedoes. All they can do is try to intercept & interfere.

US Navy dare not go too near to Iran & NK because at such distance missiles will come too quickly. If 30 missiles fired at the same time, you will be too lucky to intercept 15 out of 30. 10 missile hits is more than enough to sink carrier.

If PLA wants to take out all 11 US Navy carrier it will be done within 1 hr by Rocket Army - regardless where on the planet they are, as long as they are on surface of planet. Satellites detects and tracks them all at real time. Hypersonic warheads diving down from space 20X the speed of sound does not even need explosive although they can carry nuke warheads. The kinetic energy is already too explosive.

Thats the whole idea of having escort ships. To defend the carrier.

The carriers are not armed with interception missile because these are unsafe to their own aircrafts. Carriers only got tiny close in defense, which are 30mm guns. Their ass are all depending on protection from warships put around it to cover it's ass. And what I pointed out is considering all these protection, which still can be saturated and countered by a large number of simultaneous missiles towards carrier. The defense can always be overwhelmed. And there is absolutely no defense if the incoming missile is hypersonic glider warhead. Too fast and too little time to intercept them. To tiny chance of success to intercept them.

A senior Iranian cleric has warned the US against displays of power, saying that one missile could destroy a fleet worth billions of dollars. His words come as America sends an aircraft carrier group as a message to Iran.
Ayatollah Yousef Tabatabai-Nejad, who represents the Isfahan Province in Iran's Assembly of Experts, said on Friday that the US' “billion-dollar fleet can be destroyed with one missile,” according to the Iranian ISNA news agency. He did not elaborate, though, which particular missile he had in mind.
Earlier, a deputy head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps also made it clear he sees Washington’s muscle-flexing as empty bravado. The US “will not dare to launch a military action against us,” Yadollah Javani told Tasnim News Agency.

This week the US sent the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group as well as a bomber task force to “send a clear and unmistakable message to the Iranian regime,” as US National Advisor John Bolton put it. However, the move apparently failed to impress Tehran.
Also on rt.com Tehran wants to bring nuclear deal ‘back on track’, Iran's Atomic Energy Organization says
Bolton indeed admitted that the US “is not seeking war with the Iranian regime.” But he also stated that any attack on the interests of the US or its allies “will be met with unrelenting force.”
These statements come amid another spiral of tension in relations between Washington and Tehran. The US aircraft carrier deployment follows a fresh round of sanctions imposed against the Iranian nuclear energy sector.

The US has also spared no efforts in mounting pressure on Tehran following its own withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear deal a year ago. In April, the US lifted exemptions granted to the buyers of Iranian oil and designated the Iranian Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist group. Iran responded by adding the US Central Command (CENTCOM) to its own terrorist list.

Xijinping got new toys, quasi-aircraft carrier type 075 amphibious assault landing ship, inside dry dock, where just completion of joining up all it's major sections. There is also a smaller type 071 amphibious landing dock ship inside the same dry dock, which 6 of this model are already in use and 2 more are under construction.

US believe PLA are making 2 units of type 081 amphibious assault landing ships which are slightly smaller. Both 081 & 075 are known as "minor deck carriers" and type 071 are "half deck carrier", which front side are not flat deck but alike normal warship.

  • bcef-hwsffzc2262266.jpg

Small flat top straight 20! My first 075 type amphibious assault ship suspected to close

Recently, a network picture shows that the first 075-type amphibious assault ship of the Chinese Navy is suspected to be closing at the dock, and there is a 071 type dock landing ship next to it. It has been reported that the 075-type amphibious assault ship is 250 meters long, 30 meters wide and has a displacement of 40,000 tons. It will become one of the largest models of the existing amphibious assault ships. (Source: Haohan Defense Xigexi Shipbuilding Military CG)

Sina military depth: According to the naval expert Major General Yin Zhuo’s interview at CCTV, the 075-type amphibious assault ship has a displacement of about 40,000 tons and has already started construction at the Jiangnan Shipyard. Judging from the various aspects of the current exposure, the 075 amphibious assault ship project does exist and is likely to have been built.

However, at present, the outside world knows nothing about the tonnage size, weapon equipment configuration, construction time and equipment scale of the China 075 amphibious assault ship. At present, the combat performance data of the 075 amphibious assault ship is no exception. It is speculation that it is naturally difficult to discuss the operational performance of the Type 075 amphibious assault ship.

In view of the inability to know the specific news of the Type 075 amphibious assault ship, we can refer to the development of the US amphibious assault ship to predict and estimate the combat capability of the Type 075 amphibious assault ship.

So far, the United States has developed four generations of amphibious assault ships, namely the "Iwo Jima" class, the "Talawa" class, the "Wasp" class, and the "United States" class. Considering that China is the first to design and build an amphibious assault ship, Let's think that the Type 075 and the "Wasp" class amphibious assault ship are at the same level.

The integrated combat capability of the "Wasp" class amphibious assault ship is very powerful. In general, it will carry 6 AV-8B "鹞" vertical take-off and landing aircraft, 12 CH-46 "Sea Knight" transport helicopters, 4 CH-53 "Super Stallion" transport helicopter, 4 AH-1W gunships and 2 UH-1N multi-purpose helicopters

If it is specifically to perform "vertical landing", then it can carry up to 42 CH-46 "Sea Knight" transport helicopters at the same time, which can quickly deliver a large number of combat troops. In addition, the "Wasp" class is also equipped with three LCAC air-cushion landing crafts, with a huge garage, and the ability to land on the sea is also not to be underestimated.

China's Type 075 amphibious assault ship can be aligned to the "Wasp" level in terms of force allocation. Given that China does not have heavy transport helicopters or vertical takeoff and landing aircraft at this stage, the 075 amphibious assault ship needs to carry a larger number of straight-8. Or straight-18 transport helicopters to enhance air transport capacity,

At the same time, more naval version of the Straight-10 armed helicopter is needed for escort and fire support, and the Navy version of the Straight-20 General Helicopter can also undertake the assault mission. In addition, the 075 amphibious assault ship also needs to set up the docking bay, equipped with 2~4 726A air cushion landing crafts, which can simultaneously launch the landing landing operation.

In general, since there are no heavy-duty helicopters or vertical take-off and landing aircraft in China at this stage, it is expected that the 075-type amphibious assault ship will be inferior to the "Wasp" level in terms of air transportation and air fire support for heavy weapon equipment. The combat capability is at the same level as the "Wasp" level, and even some aspects, such as the near-defense weapon configuration field, have surpassed. Undoubtedly, after the delivery of the Type 075 amphibious assault ship, the Chinese navy's amphibious landing capability will usher in a new stage of development. (Author's signature: Korolev)

china contributed a big fat zero to the pacific war in the ocean. that’s why no aircraft carrier was sunk. simply because she didn’t have one during ww2. at least japan and u.s. have 69 years of war and peace sexperience with aircraft carriers.

Iranian drone fly over US navy carrier GPGT published today, when drone fly this way it's mission is to guide land-based missiles towards carrier, and send carrier's movement tracking to missiles. When carrier encounter drones like this, the next thing it must expect is incoming missiles. Drone also will report to command center how many missiles hit/missed the carrier:
