Govt's opinion of sg people

I've been seeing many lamentations on why the PAP is immune to all the complaints and problems of the sg people. Here's something I want to share- i think it deserves a thread on its own.

This was told to me by a friend, who got to speak with a high-level civil servant at an event. This viewpoint is apparently shared by most high fliers in the civil service.

The civil scum was responding to my friend's question on why PAP policies were not addressing the citizens' problems enough.

"WE ARE NOT CONCERNED with the problems of ordinary sg people."

"What is singapore? Singapore REALLY consists of a small group of elites, top people who plan and run the economy. As long as this small irreplaceable group survives, singapore will survive."

"Therefore all our policies are geared towards helping this elite group survive. Without them, singapore will fail."

"As for the masses. They can be replaced and their problems are not singapore's problem."

It was also added that the most feasible economic plan mooted by the PAP was turning singapore into another Monaco - playground for the rich, but hell for ordinary sinkees who will wait on them, and always being overrun by cheaper foreigners.

Yes your fears are very real.

That is why the masses need to use their votes wisely.
If they choose not to, then too bad for them.

That view is partially correct.

The elites of a society are the important ones - they drive the policies and are the engine of growth.

Support by the elites is essential for any ruling party.

But it is not just the elites who will support the ruling party. It is anyone who attains some measure of wealth and status and has something to protect. Nothing make a person more willing to compromise than anyone who has obtain something of value.

This applies to opposition leaders too.

That is why no matter how angry you are, angry_one, it is highly doubtful that the ruling party will change nor will an altruistic opposition emerge.

Replacing the ruling party is one thing. Replacing them with those who go at each other with hammers and screw drivers is an unattractive alternative. So is replacing them with others who will put their relative as minister of finance, who may give uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces iron rice bowls.

Thus if you need to be angry, be angry about the hypocrisy of Big Leaders and small leaders. They lead for their own advantage.

What is not correct is the assertion the ruling party is not interested in the masses.

Every democratic ruling party (not government) needs to be concerned about the masses.

But only one aspect - to prevent a rebellion.

That's why we have the cpf, cpf life, compulsory retention of our monies.

Nothing fosters a rebellion like a peoples who has nothing more to lose.

And of course preventive care in the form of armed forces, home security, gurkha guards, media, cultural expectations, political socializations.

The ruling party do care about the very poor - that the marginalize people will always have an outlet and at least a few hundred dollars in their pocket each month.

Otherwise Karl Marx's slogan will be true - that we are a people who have nothing more to lose, than our chains.

A non-parasitic ruling party will never allow things to reach that level.

Learn from the leech who suck blood. And drop off when it is bloated.

This is what you get fram a fascit political party that has been in power for too long. This should not be surprising. The only surprise is that singaporeans have not woken up.

What the alternative parties need to do is to collate all the trash talk that MPs have said about Singaporeans and there are plenty of it from different mouths.

Collate all these trash talk and ask Singaporeans if they want people like that to care for them. Collate all of these and ask the people if these things are said in public then what more will these MPs say and think when behind the backs of the people?

Again, thse are all done publicly without a hint of remorse and repeated ad nauseum by so many of them. It is not a one-off but a systemic manner with which they operate and think and feel.

Do you really want to vote for these people? VOte for whom? Vote for yourself or them? It is obvious that people vote for themselves. Then if you vote for yourself then why would you vote for a group of people that talk trash about you, your family and your loved ones?

Vote wisely??? ha ha ha...a lot of procastinantions, huge turnouts at oppositions rallies....a lot of 'smoke'..but not fires...when the 'smog' settled down, 66.6% was the outcome...the pedulum got stuck at that point bogged down with 'sweets' & 'candies' thrown at the voters...:p

That is why the U fighters can quietly say to the voters..66.6% or 33.4%...Fark U!

Very good analysis, Kakowi.
What you said proves that I have been right for many years.
The problem with SG is not the lack of people with the right ideas and thought process, it's how to mobilize these ideas and thought process into action.
