Gangsters and outlaw organizations are people too. Just becaue they're involved in illegal activities doesn't make them any less human than regular citizens. The only thing that puts them on the "wrong" side of the law is their illegal commercial activity in contraband, "immoral" businesses, and tax evasion and their resortment to violence to "take care of business." But somebody's got to provide the services and goods that "legitimate" businesses do not provide. They are catering to public wants as well, just like any other business. An example is the Hell's Angels' Toy Run where they raise monies to purchase toys for poor children. The cops are quick to point out that this does not make them any less of a criminal organization, but its an annual event which still carries on today, and are supported by their communities.
