SINGAPORE - Sin Chew Daily reported that a girl, believed to be under a spell, was dressed in a red costume and put in a golden coffin for three hours in a cemetery in Singapore.

The parents spent $30,000 for the entire "funeral" to get rid of the "spell", it said.

The 20-year-old student underwent the ceremony after her character changed few months earlier and she could not even recognise her own parents.

Her family believed that she was under a spell.

Family must have reserved a plot in Chua Chu Kang....looking at the amount spent..must be well off...in days not so far back, some rich ones buy coffins and keep them at home & how true it is, once in while they lie down in them...

Is chua chu kang still accepting tenants I thought the gov't closed all the sites to make way for housing development for foreigners. The christian & muslim cemetries at Serangoon & Aljunied has already been vacated for years.

They must be waiting for the stigma of the place to be forgotten before they start building. Already have an mrt station there though it's not operational.

If someone is rich enough can buy a HDB apt & store the remains of their loved ones there for 99 years. I'm sure there are neighbours who wouldn't mind having quiet neighbours

Reminds me of an episode in Yongzheng Dynasty. One of Emperor Yongzheng's princes (humbly contented without ambition to succession to throne) staged his own fake funeral to avoid being sent on duty to seize one of his uncle princes' properties for attempted usurpation. (Since not interested in succession to throne, why do such dirty job? Let those brother princes interested do it and fight over it.)
