Refugees welcome! They are not dangerous, they are in danger!
This incident is reminiscent of a strange story in the Qur’an. A mysterious figure, known as Khidr in Islamic tradition, kills a boy in an apparently random and gratuitous attack. He then explains: “And as for the boy, his parents were believers, and we feared that he would overburden them by transgression and disbelief. So we intended that their Lord should substitute for them one better than him in purity and nearer to mercy.” (18:80-81)
And according to Islamic law, “retaliation is obligatory against anyone who kills a human being purely intentionally and without right.” However, “not subject to retaliation” is “a father or mother (or their fathers or mothers) for killing their offspring, or offspring’s offspring.” (Reliance of the Traveller o1.1-2).
Muslims commit 91 percent of honor killings worldwide. The Palestinian Authority gives pardons or suspended sentences for honor murders. Iraqi women have asked for tougher sentences for Islamic honor murderers, who get off lightly now. Syria in 2009 scrapped a law limiting the length of sentences for honor killings, but “the new law says a man can still benefit from extenuating circumstances in crimes of passion or honour ‘provided he serves a prison term of no less than two years in the case of killing.’” And in 2003 the Jordanian Parliament voted down on Islamic grounds a provision designed to stiffen penalties for honor killings. Al-Jazeera reported that “Islamists and conservatives said the laws violated religious traditions and would destroy families and values.”
Until the encouragement Islamic law gives to honor killing is acknowledged and confronted, more women will suffer.

What kind of mother plans to cripple her child or have her killed right away? Heda B. (23) lived in too western a fashion for the tastes of her family from Chechnya. That almost cost the young woman her life. She is now under witness protection – and half her family is on trial.
Criminal Court, Room 500. Born in Chechnya. Russian passports. For years in Berlin. When Interior Senator Andreas Geisel (SPD) analyzed Berlin’s organized crime in December 2019, perpetrators with a Russian-Eurasian background came right after bikers and Arab clans. Investigators found “unusual cohesion”, a “rigorous system of sanctions” and “transregional networking”. “Honor” is often spoken about in these circles, but it has nothing to do with actual honor.
Senior Public Prosecutor Michael Wachs from the Berlin Public Prosecutor’s Office reads the indictment. 14 pages of hate in the finest legal German: Crime date, attempted murder, serious deprivation of liberty.
Heda’s mother Hava I. (45, no job), brother Daurbek B. (24, no job) and the former law student Mairbek K. (36) sit behind armored glass (they were arrested on January 18, 2020). The alleged helpers of the plot against the apostate woman are her uncle Tamirland D. (28, no job) and Zelimkhan Ba. (29, former management student), both at large.
The young woman was entered into an Islamic marriage in 2018, according to the prosecution. She fled from the “severely mentally ill” man after three months. She reported him – because of his attempt to join the terrorist ISIS in Syria. Shortly before her testimony against him, the family shipped her to Georgia, the prosecution said. She was detained in a mountain valley for weeks, and also beaten.
In the following period the family considered how to proceed with her, “who had violated the family honor by leaving her husband, testifying to the police, aborting a child and possibly other alleged misconduct,” according to the prosecution. In mid-December 2019, “a killing abroad” was discussed intensively, if her remarriage to a man from Pankisital in Georgia should fail.
According to the indictment, the ex-law student offered himself to the mother as a killer because her daughter “will always be dangerous as long as she is still alive”. According to the indictment, the mother should also have considered “crippling” her daughter – while the brother was looking for a husband “who could keep her under control”.
Until their mother, brother and ex-law student were arrested, murder was a topic between them almost every day, as is shown by the records of the family’s tapped phone calls. Now the alleged accomplices are silent in court.
On Friday, the daughter is supposed to testify as a witness, guarded by armed bodyguards. The defendants face up to 15 years imprisonment. The judgment is set for December 3rd.
