Are you stupid or what? Everybody will know whether the economy is doing well or not in the present. What people don't know is whether it will do better or worse in the future.

And casinos have helped a lot. Alright, so far at least. But at this rate, all our taxes will go down.

If you are really so smart, you won't spend your good hours talking nonsense & arguing with me. You moron

It boosts the Singapore economy. Casino tax boosts the government coffers and allows tax rate to fall even lower.

Casinos are good.

What make you think the Govt will reduce tax because of casino. LHL said caisno good for us.The two IRs pay taxes. It benefits us, how . Talk Cock Sing Song.
Wait the Election over, GST will go up 10%. Didn't they said the 7% GST will benefit the poor. You really believe them. Only the 66% believe them. Like I said before. God made too many stupid people.

Loser, taxes have been falling and falling. You can cry father cry GST, but the pocket book speaks loudest - the tax cut for us outweighs the increase in GST. If that is not the case, my heart bleeds for you

So even if GST 10% I don't mind, if they drop income tax just another 1%.

But with casino revenues coming in, I won't be surprised if income tax drops without GST having to go up.

This one 1% is for companies and foreign investors. Whatever income taxes, make up for GST to go up. Although most Singaporeans do not pay taxes, if they pay is only a small sum. So GST is direct tax. If you were born yesterday, I agreed with you.
When we buy things, how many of us do take a look at the GST amounts. If you will add them up in a period of one year, you will realize, wow, I paid so much for GST.
Already ERP is increasing. The only way to solve traffics. Money is the solution. Not many people realize. Since you can afford to pay 10%. Do yourself a trouble and add up all the GST and you tell me if it isworth it. The poor and the retired still have to pay tax. No one is spared.

Like I say, if your income tax gain is less than the additional GST you have to pay, my heart bleeds for you. You are right only for those who spend most of their taxable income but not if you spend less than half of it because the 1% savings in income tax more than offsets the 2% increase in GST

Moan, moan, moan, whine, whine. Go out and earn more money then all these won't matter

Thanks Bro Bad New Brown for posting the experience of the casino gambler who is now in a state of sheer despair. Once again, it's a lesson for all of us.You can win and win.But once you are caught by the casino demon, you are dead unless someone rescued you.

One of my friends was so fed up and so worked up that he lost heavily that he went to his ATMs and withdrew whatever cash he had to seek revenge. But he lost more and more despite my attempts to stop him. He was saved because his saving account withdrawal had been capped! Otherwise he would have lost everything. He withdrew from 3 ATMs from 3 different accounts!!!! And he lost everything - despite his winnings at previous visits to the casino.

Yes, all it takes is just ONE VISIT, ONE RECKLESS MOMENT AND ONE UNGUARDED MOMENT....all of us are vulnerable, better be very careful when anyone of us here is overwhelmed by the CASINO DEMON.... IN A DAZED STATE.....intoxicated and drugged by the casino spirit...that's the road to the valley of death...

Thanks once again for sharing the story of the gambler.

I say again. The way for a Singaporean to benefit from casinos is to not go there and let the foreigners (including Malaysians) and the better heeled/weaker minded Singaporeans do so.

I do agree with you. But I'm also too weak to resist one or two visits there.Sometimes, have to bring friends and clients to the casino den which they like. So I've to be very careful myself NOT to soak in too long and lost everything I've got.

Thanks for sharing your view too.

Strangest animals are the aunties who know they will surely lose money and still go there, pay $2k annual fee, and lose $200 to $500 a pop at the slot machines. They have no delusions about winning money but enjoy playing the machine waiting for "feature". Expensive version of pacman?

I agree with Bro Cass888. Yes, there're many aunties with plenty of cash to play and gamble. Many do not even know how to play but they play nevertheless hoping to strick jackpot. I hope they are not playing with their hard earned savings or allowances...But many of them are really cash rich!!!! Some play very big and the roulette and have skyscrapers too!!! But I see many simply donate to the casinos...

One auntie I met told me she had been playing the whole night just to pass time....couldn't pull herself out of hte casino...soaked in...and completely dazed and doped..." lost $10K already..."...and still hoping to WIN back...but ended up losing MORE...sad.

It's not bro. That auntie you refer to is one off - lost all their money and gone.

I'm referring to the aunties who keep going back. Don't lose $10k in one go but somehow must go to the slot machines. Think they spend more than half their lifetime in the jackpot rooms of clubs.

I think eventually all these "small timers" club players will graduate into full time slot players...some will win, some will strike jackpots...but the majority will lose eventually.....I saw one uncle staring at the screen at MBS for a very long long time...don't know what he was thinking...he looked so sad, so forlorn and so depressed....maybe the machine had swallowed all his cash:confused:....and he must be wondering why the machine never return his capital or let him strike...:confused::confused:

I do that some time when the machine fails to give me even a little bonus:p:p

Good luck bro and sis. Thanks again!

if u are on daily levy, bring the amount u willing to lose AND set achievable winning target, leave when either happens.

Do not return with more $ to chase losses if u are lose all the $ earlier, u are not a lucky gambler afterall, make do with the acceptable losses, life goes on.
Do not return to win more $ if u won earlier, make do with ur target winnings, leave the casino a happy person.

BUT

if u are on annual levy, bring the amount u willing to lose AND set smaller winning target ~25% of bankroll.

Leave when u encounter an uncomfortable losing streak OR left with abt ~50% of bankroll, leaving the casino with remaining $$$ in ur pocket, the feeling of soreness will be lessen
Leave when u reached ur winning $ target, since more winning trips will add up to a decent WIN or slowly recover previous losses.

afterall, u bought the annual pass, make every trip count

last note, if u lose discipline n lose n lose in a single trip, u will game over sooner than u think

SINGAPORE: Marina Bay Sands (MBS) is suing a casino patron it describes as a "premium" player for alleged non-payment of $240,868 in credit extension but the man is disputing its claim that he owes it money.

In the first legal suit of its kind here, MBS claims it had extended credit to 30-year-old Lester Ong Boon Lin as he was a premium player with a minimum deposit of $100,000 with the casino.

According to court documents filed by MBS, Mr Ong applied for a S$1 million credit extension in May and presented a cheque of an unknown amount to the casino as a form of security.

MBS then decided to extend S$250,000 in casino chips to Mr Ong and both parties allegedly entered an agreement documenting this. It was not stated in the documents why MBS was not demanding the repayment of the full sum.

Mr Ong is denying these claims, saying he was not a premium player as he had withdrawn the S$100,000 deposit to buy gambling chips before credit was extended to him.

In his defence filed by lawyer Sunil Singh Panoo of Messrs Dhillon & Partners, Mr Ong further contends that the MBS is deemed to be a moneylender under the law as it had extended credit to a non-premium member. He argues that the credit extended is "unenforceable and not recoverable" since MBS is not a licensed moneylender.

Mr Ong also denies that agreements had been made between him and MBS. He claims that the credit extended to him was an unsolicited offer.

Court papers showed that MBS first filed its writ of summons against Mr Ong on Oct 14, after failing to encash his cheque and unsuccessful attempts to seek payment from him.

Following Mr Ong's defence, the MBS' reply -- filed by lawyers Surenthiraraj Saunthararajah and Toh Wei Yi of Harry Elias Partnership -- reiterates that Mr Ong had deposited S$100,000 cash to qualify as a premium player before credit was given to him.

It said that S$250,000 worth of casino chips would not have been offered in the absence of an agreement between the two parties.

The MBS also alleges that Mr Ong has never denied the debt when it tried to seek payment from him from May to August.

He had also made various proposals for repayment.

The MBS is seeking at least S$250,000 -- the minimum for a High Court case -- in damages and cost.
