Haha thanks Ram and Golden...

My main purpose is to actually visit a friend there, however, knowing that she is mad over cars it will be race tracks all the way if I were to go there for a visit. Is there like any interesting places which I can go other than visiting the penguins? :p

I was there to visit a friend too. Honestly, other than the penguins, I don't recall anything from that trip!

But, being the 'world's most liveable city', there should be something in it for you. I only recall it was bloody cold when I was there about 10 years ago. If Melbourne is boring, Canberra is many times more boring. I prefer Sydney and Gold Coast.

Can't recall the name of the place but I suspect we are referring to the same place. 2 and a half hrs drive from the city?

You're welcome. IIRC, that place at the coast of Melbourne where cute little penguins line up for parade is call Phillips Island. There's not much other places I recall interesting in Melbourne. The whole city move at very slow pace and by 4 p.m., every shop starts closing down for the day. The Victoria market (morning only) and Crown Hotel casino not bad though.

Yes, Philips Island. That's the difference between a young man and an old man - memory recall no power due to old age.

Melbourne is a boring place. I prefer Sydney. You should visit Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, Banff, Jasper if you haven't been there.

I am surprised you find Melborune boring..it has been rated as one of the most liveable city in the world.

I love melbourne because it has everything..entertainmemnt, nature, weather, infrastructure, good and efficient government, etc..a perfect place

For Australia, I like Gold Coast best and Sydney second. Sydney downtown and Chinatown not bad, and I agree, Melbourne is boring bordering on sleepy.

ohhh, I am surprised you dislike melbourne too.

Have you been to Great Ocean Road, Phillip Island, Great Alpine Road, Crown Complex, the Murray, Yarra Valley, etc?
