An Afghan national exhibited a knife on Tuesday around 10 a.m. in a shopping center in Rennes before attacking the police. The individual was finally able to be arrested by the police after trying to slit the throat of an officer who wanted to subdue him.
A tragedy avoided. It was around 10 a.m. on Tuesday July 5 when security guards at the Colombia shopping center in Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine) noticed an individual with threatening behavior.
The man was showing off a knife in the mall. In doing so, the security guards alerted the police.
Once there, the police tried to arrest him, but the man tried to stab them.
CONTROLLED BY A TASER
Managing to flee, the suspect then tried to slit the throat of another policeman who came to try to subdue him, a source familiar with the matter told CNEWS.
It was finally a policeman from the BAC who was able to neutralize him using an electric pulse gun. The man was arrested shortly after.
According to the same source close to the case, the individual arrested was Mahdi R., a 27-year-old Afghan in a regular situation and holder of a multi-year residence card valid until May 2023.
According to initial information, he would be known to the police but unknown to the intelligence services.
During his hearing with the police, Mahdi R. said he “heard voices” and had no memory of the events. However, the psychiatric track is not favored by the investigators.
