As of September 15, 2025, a second round of negotiations was in progress, but no significant progress had been made. The previous round in July had led to a 90-day extension of a tariff truce, which was set to expire on November 10.

No deal will be done with a hostile, belligerent country that is China. Just buying time until China is totally decoupled from world trade.

The trade talk is secondary, it is US cant let go of China cheap product and use the excuse of 3 months extension to prolong to buy these cheap product
China has wisely chosen to maintain a distance from the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
This decision enables the country to secure cheap oil and LNG from Russia for an extended period.
Moreover, China gains a strategic advantage by keeping the US, the West, and Ukraine occupied for years, even after a ceasefire is reached, allowing their countries to focus on rebuilding their own economy.
In fact, China has previously stated that one of the key conditions that would be Russia's ability to emerge unscathed so as to drag these western countries endlessly in the conflicts.
There are additional reasons behind China's cautious approach, including preventing the US from fully engaging in conflicts in the Indo-Pacific region and the Middle East.
