Motor racing-F1 teams cannot be allowed to set rules, says FIA

SILVERSTONE, England, June 19 - Formula One's governing body insists it will not be held to ransom by the eight teams threatening to form a breakaway series in a row over the submission of unconditional entries for next season's championship.

The International Automobile Federation added that it would publish a revised list of entrants to its championship on Saturday.

"The FIA is disappointed but not surprised by FOTA's inability to reach a compromise in the best interests of the sport," it said, referring to the Ferrari-led Formula One Teams Association's plan to set up their own series.

"It is clear that elements within FOTA have sought this outcome throughout the prolonged period of negotiation and have not engaged in the discussions in good faith," added a statement.

"The FIA cannot permit a financial arms race in the Championship nor can allow FOTA to dictate the rules of Formula One.

It said the deadline for unconditional entries to its championship would expire as planned later on Friday.

FOTA issued a statement on Thursday night at the British Grand Prix saying that BMW-Sauber, Brawn, Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull, Renault, Toro Rosso and Toyota would start to prepare for their own championship from 2010.

Former champions Williams and Force India have committed to the FIA championship along with the new Campos, Manor and U.S. F1 teams.

The FIA had set a Friday deadline for the remaining teams to make their entries unconditional or risk exclusion in favour of would-be new competitors.

The eight FOTA teams had submitted entries conditional on the 2010 rules, which include a controversial budget cap, being rewritten and the signing of a new commercial agreement. (Reporting by Alan Baldwin; Editing by John O'Brien; To query or comment on this story email [email protected])

You obviously don't know the thrill of a street circuit. Why do you think Morocco stood out among the rest?

Monaco is a city, Morocco is a country. we all know F1 in Monaco, but never heard of F1 in Morocco.............. I wonder how much fuel they need to run laps round the country.

I posted this in the other thread

If the 8 teams really moves out(which I seriously doubt), the F1 will start losing a lot of money. Most of the money are coming from those 8 teams anyway. Seriously would anyone want to pay insane amount of money just to watch Williams and Force India? I seriously doubt FIA will allow those 8 to leave. Its like throwing money out the window, the tough talk is all over, FIA will be starting to beg soon. Already, all the major sponsors and countries are talking about how they can wiggle their way out of the deal if there really is a split
