Forget about voting out PAP in next GE, it will not happen so soon. In fact, many of the forumers here will not see PAP losing power during their life-times.

It would be easier to vote in a non-PAP president in the meantime. This will make the PAP lao sai into their white underwear.

This assumes that there will be another contested presidential election again.

As long as there are qualified contestants like Tan Cheng Bock, there will be a presidential election. Unless the PAP changes the constitution.

But of course there are qualified but unsuitable contestants like Tan Kin Lian who will split the votes.

It is not my expectation that there will be another contested presidential election. Past experience does not automatically mean any relevance to the future.

The next PE does not take place till Aug 2017; as such, there is ample time to make a constitutional amendment and raise the bar for candidates. It does not have to be a major amendment. It could simply include a provision that all candidates must have had CEO experience of managing a $500m company within the past 2 years. Even such an amendment might not be necessary judging from what some PAP MPs said in parliament about the last PE. MPs might just insist that the committee issuing the certificates of eligibility (COE) be given more latitude to decide who gets a COE.

It's just screwball's opinion. Who knows what will happen 10 years down the road. PAP may be out of power by then and some of them might even be in the jailhouse.
