Do not opt out means automatic opt in ! And they will deduct money !

SINGAPORE: With effect from Thursday, all MINDEF employees and Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) active servicemen will be automatically insured for S$100,000.

This initiative, which rides on the existing SAF Group Term Life (GTL) insurance scheme, is aimed at encouraging them to have a minimum level of insurance protection for themselves.

For a monthly premium of S$12.80, all eligible MINDEF employees, regular servicemen who are aged 45 and below, and full-time National Servicemen (NSFs), who do not opt out of the scheme, will be insured for the sum of S$100,000.

The insurance coverage will provide protection against personal accidents in daily life.

MINDEF says it will increase the monthly allowance of NSFs by S$20 to help them pay for the monthly premium.

The increase in NSF allowance also takes effect from January 1.

Who pays ?

Who pays ?

why should NSF pay for the insurance when it is the pap govt who put them in high risk vocation of NS...

$20 increase is long overdue as an increment for the meagre monthly NSF allowance... so to give and then take it back as "insurance" is like the fake public housing subsidy....

Why shd NSF be paying for all these crap ? We risk all life for our nation, yet we have to pay the premium from the already miseable allowance ?

I guess I was lucky to be enlisted 3 years ago, and not now. $20 per month is a big chunk of money especially you're paid worse than a Thai construction worker.

Its one thing about being paid lower than a Thai construction worker. Most NS slaves are treated worst then a Thai Construction worker in many aspect.

insurance premium for SAF applies same theory for car insurance. any car brand/make chalks up higher accident rate yr on yr, the premium automatically goes up, but if the accident rate falls, the premium quite unlikely to be marked down.

so for SAF, due to number of deaths in recent yrs, naturally the premium per capita also increases. insurance company not stupid to make losing biz. if i'm not wrong so far, only NTUC dare to bao SAF insurance.............. n NTUC belongs to u know who.

The PAP treats its relationship with the public, and especially with NSFs/NSmen, as at best, a master-servant level. For some NSFs, its a master-slave relationship.

That has what led me to study in Australia, and thus have a chance in living in a country which government would treat its people and residents in a humane and equal fashion.

Countries who have a relationship with the citizens in the "citizen-government" fashion have my respect. I dislike the PAP immensely because they have consistently refused to respect us as equals. This insurance thing only enforces such an ideal that they want, but one which we don't.
