Fatty Weng is a restaurant, can't be compared to hawkers and coffeeshops. In olden days, Hor Fun cost twice or more as much as Wanton Mee. Nowadays, the missing or cheaply substituted ingredients are of course due to cost cutting in competition to be a mass market affordable dish.

Pork liver is still available with Bakkut Teh, however not of the same freshness as in olden days of course. After the Japanese encephalitis crisis in Malaysia in the mid 90s, there's no more live pig imports.

What's really missing is the pork blood from Yong Towfu and Mixed Pork Soup. For those to young to remember, or simply didn't try it at the mention of blood, it's not pure liquid blood as Dracula would have preferred. Nevertheless, it's still real pork blood coagulated into soft curd, looked like pieces of maroon tofu, but certainly more tasty.

I miss the Pork Porridge at Queen Street in the 80s, haizz... dunno go where liao... :(:(:(

I miss the Wan Ton Noodle at the old depot road market..

1 the hor fun used to come with mussel 大头, so delicious.
2 the fried bee hoon was wrapped with (CB leave)NS fellows would know what I am talking about. The bee hoon was plainly fried with taugeh and a bit of tau kwa with pour in some chilli and red sweet sauce.
3 you bring your own eggs to the chai tao kuay hawkers and if you order 10 packets you get 1 free.
4.

Those orange color kaya were stored in plastic cups with just a plastic sheet label on top. Used to be sold by those traditional bread stalls where you can have white/brown/multi color bread to go with it. Can also ask them for Planta (Bei Lumpar!) margarine. Nowadays those green color kaya taste like shit - lumpy, no fragrance and way too sweet.

I rememeber those triangular UHT and condense (Milk Maid!) milk as well. Somehow milk also taste better in those days.

I always rememeber what Hor Fun used to taste like because my dad used to buy them every Saturday night and I always look forward to it......gone are the days and my dad........
