Before Hri Kumar's flippant idea reaches parliament, I humbly suggest that he goes sell his mother first. And make a pimply profit out of it!

Yes, it is rude and I am fookin' angry. But this is the only way to wake up those PAP numbskulls that their "money buys everything!" is not the solution.
•Money cannot buy the blood, sweat, tears of all NSmen.
•Money cannot replace the loss of limbs of NSmen.
•Money cannot bring life to the untimely deaths of young NSMen and heal the grief and broken hearts of their parents and loved ones
•NSmen and many Singaporeans ask not what the country (PAP ministers and MPs) can do for them, but they do all they can for their country Singapore! Without million dollar salary that ministers make . . . which makes a mockery of National Service!
Even pimps have code of honour and know what loyalty and service to country and countrymen means. Do PAP MPs have only SHIT and $$$$ in their heads?

Siew Kum Hoong: Hri's "duty" proposal encapsulates what is wrong with PAP

This proposal encapsulates why the PAP as a whole is struggling so much today. It has become too transactional in its philosophy, the dollars and cents have become too entrenched and central in its thinking. Again, it all makes rational economic sense -- but we are real human beings, not abstract economic units.

This transactional worldview also explains why, despite the PAP's best efforts to "sharpen the differences" between Singaporeans and non-Singaporeans, Singaporeans remain so unhappy and unappreciated.

If I am unhappy because I think I am being badly treated, would I really feel better just because the Government treats someone else equally badly? I mean, relatively speaking the other person may no longer be better off than me, but it does not improve my own position in any way. Imposing the National Defence Duty makes foreigners and PRs worse-off, but do not directly improve the lot of Singaporean males (at least not by much, and certainly not in any meaningful way), and most importantly does nothing to address their main concerns, in particular the complaint that employers discriminate against Singaporean males because of their NS liabilities.

But in all these cases, the Singaporean's life does not become better in a meaningful way. This is the flaw of the PAP's transactional worldview -- it is a view of the economic world, and not of the real world.
