SINGAPORE :

The first person to be accused of committing a crime at Marina Bay Sands since it opened a week ago was charged in court on Monday.

Malaysian hairstylist Tey Chin Wei, 18, allegedly stole real estate agent Tan Hwee Leng's handbag which contained S$600 cash, casino chips worth S$600 and an Apple iPhone worth S$1,200.

This reportedly happened at the integrated resort's premises on Sunday at about 2.15am.

Tey, who intends to engage a lawyer, is out on bail and will be back in court on May 17.

If convicted, he could be jailed up to three years or fined, or both.
