sillycon valley (san jose) recently reconfigured green bicycle lanes to curbside, with parking at least a lane away from curb. curbside parking used to be the norm. this is to prevent drivers from opening doors and slamming into cyclists (and cyclists onto road and oncoming traffic). this was exactly what happened in sf a week ago. a cyclist got crushed under a truck as she tried to avoid a stupid driver who opened her door without looking back and checking blind spot. sf is not there yet like in sillycon valley, but soon will copy the san jose model for avenues and roads that are wide enough. the sj model goes a few steps further by installing permanent green cones to prevent drivers from cutting into bike lane. eventually the entire city will be reconfigured for cyclists.

For a country like Singapore to levy extraordinary charges, levies & taxes on road usage...cyclists have no place on these overpriced roads meant for overpriced vehicles.

Car drivers and passengers have to buckle up. Peasants in the back of trucks are treated like animals. 1st world indeed.
there are 2 worlds in sg. 1st world for elites and 3rd world for “invisible” laborers in broad daylight. peasant and coolie ways are still practised in sg with zero enforcement on safety.

sinkie roads are too valuable for bike lanes. i confine my rides to pcn to avoid sinkie drivers. they may drive 1st world autos but are mostly 3rd world drivers.

They do have ONE bike lane which is the Tanah Merah Coastal Road. Ironically, this is the most dangerous lane to ride in the whole of Singapore. It is scattered with debris from nearby construction. Pickup Drivers fetching truckloads of Banglas place rocks on the lane as marker for pickup points. The abbreviation for this road is TMCR which also stands for Tyres Must Always Puncture. I avoid this hazardous bike lane as it is much safer to ride on the road. That’s how 3rd world this place is.
