A Filipino doctor, Dr Hannah Tan (above), fell four storeys and landed on top of a lift, which had stopped at the first floor, at a Jalan Besar hostel last Thursday.
The 29-year-old, who was in Singapore with her family to attend a conference, was in pain and alone in the darkness of the shaft for four hours. She was discovered when her mother heard her cries for help.
Dr Tan, who was staying at the hostel with six family members, was on the way to the toilet when she stepped into the lift shaft, which is next to the toilet.
She said: “It was dark and scary. I kept crying for help.”
She suffered serious injuries, but is in stable condition at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
Read the full report in The New Paper on Monday (July 29).

Spore is an expensive place to visit. The nicer hotels will cost about $200+ per night & I don't think a room is big is enough for 7 people. So just imagine the cost of 2 rooms per night.

Why signage not incl Tagalog and Hindi?

The sign did not say "ELEBATOR"...so she do not understand..

Tans, Lims and Gohs are quite common. There is a rich man named Gohkongwei.

Most of the Filipino tycoons are Chinese: Henry Sy, Lucio Tan, John Gokongwei, Andrew Tan, George Ty. They dominate every sector in the economy from retail to timber to manufacturing and real estate. All the principal banks are owned by the Chinese; as are the major airlines.

It's not just the economy. Jose Rizal, the father of modern Philippines, was a 5th generation Chinese on his mother's side. Other famous Filipino Chinese include Cardinal Sin, Corazon Aquino and Ferdinand Marcos (who was descended from a 15th century Chinese pirate, Lin Feng).
