A man in a northern village in India allegedly killed his daughter because he could not stand the gossip about her when she returned home late at night, Tamil Nesan reported.
He was arrested after the police fished out the body of the 18-year-old girl from a deep, dried-up well at their Kurukshetra village in Chandigarh.
Police said the suspect stabbed his daughter with a sharp weapon, then wrapped the body in a blanket before throwing it into the well on Friday.
Villagers, sensing a foul stench from the well, reported the matter to police on Sunday.
Neighbours said the victim, after leaving school, took up a tailoring course in a nearby town and used to come home late every day.
Her father allegedly told the police he was furious when the villagers started making nasty remarks about the girl, adding that he did not know if his daughter was having an affair or had been returning home late for other reasons.
