Finally, I have an eyewitness account. He happens to be my ex-police colleague and also a forummer here none other than Jixiaolan. He happened to be there at DE McD when it happened. Apparently, there was a fist-fight brawl outside earlier. After that, one gang came into McD. Nobody knew they already packed bladed weapons then.

Darren and his gang came in to challenge again, to their unpleasant shock when blades were brandished. They scrambled for the exit, an automated glass door. All got away except Darren who banged into the glass door as he was the slowest as the door momentarily shut back. That's the end of his life on earth as the other happily chopped him up.

I think you're off the point. The gang after the first fist-fight brawl went to get weapons and reassembled. Even if the Darren gang didn't come back looking for them, they'd have gone looking for the the Darren gang anyway. At law, it's called premeditation beyond preparation stage. Not a case of 穷寇莫追。
