Ex-vehicle inspector charged with corruption

A FORMER principal vehicle inspector was charged in court on Friday with 30 counts of corruption involving $1,675.
Md Daud Nadzim, 45, then employed by STA Inspection, is said to have corruptly obtained bribes of between $20 and $200 from 10 motor vehicle workshops in return for turning a blind eye to 35 illegally modified cars.
The alleged offences took place between October 2009 and March 2010.
Daud's charges comprised 26 counts of corruptly obtaining $1,295 bribes; two counts each of abetting the offence of getting bribes totalling $90, and getting $290 with two others.
Daud, who is out on police bail of $10,000, indicated that he wanted to plead guilty.
He will return to court next Friday. The maximum punishment for corruption is a $100,000 fine and five years' jail.
