The great mystery isn't how we can continue but how we have not already fallen apart with such a system. One aspect of PAP rule has been to keep information and the mainstream media controlled so that the system appear healthy and the deep problems masked from the public. Take housing and healthcare as examples, we are told repeatedly by the govt with the help of the mainstream media that they are affordable and everyone is taken care of - the 3Ms of our healthcare system ensures that everyone is okay under the system. If you're not looking to buy a home or get seriously ill, you can completely unaware of the problems. The PAP's ability to control information is now eroded by the new media/social media. Awareness of the problems have increased over the years and once people gain a better understanding of the system, they find it hard to accept and support.

Take Han Fook Kwang, the ex-Straits Times editor as an example. The article he wrote so accurately reflects what is happening on the ground but we did not see such articles in the Straits Times when Han Fook Kwang was the editor...his vision suddenly cleared up once he left his position in the Straits Times.

Han Fook Kwang's advice to the PAP is go and understand the concerns of ordinary Singaporeans and not to dismiss and trivialize the challenges they face in their lives. The PAP should stop using the conversation to promote its thinking - they have had ample opportunity to explain their policies in the mainstream media and there is no lack of understanding of what they are doing and the outcomes of their actions. The more they explain why they needed to do what they have done, the less support they will gain on the ground because the last thing ordinary Singaporeans want to hear is justifications for going in a direction we have been going in the last 10 years - more and more people are willing to vote against this.

Please, this is an inception movie, Han FK is a PAP dog and dogs don't bite their masters. Ever. So this is a wayang dream, wrapped in another wayang dream, and so on and so forth. The only way is to kick out of it, from the deepest dream level, to the next, and the next. Otherwise the top spins but never stop.

They are not called whores for nothing.

Many many years ago, my late father told me a story that rings true today. It goes on like this:-

Once upon a time there lived a fat cat.

This cat will always kill mice, cockroaches and other creepy crawlies.

It used to boast to it's fellow felines about it's past achievement in snuffing out the lives of many a poor rat, cockroach and other pests.

One fine day, the fat cat called it's kith and kin togather and declared that the time has come for it to make a religious trip to a holy land.

All the other felines were shocked as they knew about the atrocities committed by the fat cat.

Among the gathering was an honest cat who siged and told the fat cat that it was no point making such a trip when all it's life it has been murdering other creatures.

The fat cat replied that the time has finally come for it to do so in order to seek forgiveness for that was the way to the Pearly Gates and ultimate entry to Heaven"

Dear readers please Think about the story yourself and make your own wise judgements.

Han Fook Kwang was promoted and is still with SPH. He has authored 2 books and both on old man. He is regarded as the first editor to do his entire tenure under the regime where it was fully controlled by the Govt.

Please read his article which first appeared where else but the Straits Times. This is skillfully written and note the person he cites as those who read the tea leaves on the impact of increased immigration is the old man. Anyway the decision to reduce intake was made nearly 9 months ago. It is a done deal. Why write an article after the govt revised its policy. Ask any businessman and he will tell you that they work permits, s pass and e pass all have been withdrawn or cut drastically.

This is what you call a classic piece of dog-whistle journalism - simple minds pick on what they want and cannot comprehend the rest (unable to hear the frequency of the dog-whistle).

Han Fook Kwang might as write that he favours equal rights for the female gender and with his skill, some people would actually think it is novel idea and has merits.
