Ex-SPH editor - Wooden Goh's wife came to SPH office and wanted to 'settle'

What this means is that if it were not for pressure from a heavyweight to bring Durai to justice, he would have got away with it and laughed all the way to the bank.

Ever heard of something like, I got to wash my feet and one hand so that at least one of my hand ( the one that handles money) can remain dirty and yet remain unnoticed? LOL

I think this explains why the book was allowed to publish.

Any negative reaction to the government within book has been thought through and defendable by the government.

Despite the revelations in the book, he(cheong) did not think it would "cause problems" with the Government, which was prepared to defend its position on media "to the ends of the earth". "I don't think there is anything in the book they are uncomfortable with, that they will not be able to defend."

CYS was not the lead but Patrick Daniel was. CYS reports to PD. The person who started the ball rolling was a board member who convinced the Board to move on this. This board member was engaged in a broad based umbrella charity body and felt that Durai was not playing ball and not truthful. The PH stories on the gold tap would not have surfaced and covered much ground without him. Do note that PM's wife was the patron. The deal was to settle if Durai agreed to correct a series of misrepresentation and perceptions as part of the settlement. This condition was refused by the cock who folded on the first morning of the trial.

The New Paper

Mr Cheong wrote in his book that Mrs Goh Chok Tong (left), patron of National Kidney Foundation, wanted to settle the case against its chief executive TT Durai (middle) amicably. But SPH Chairman Lim Kim San(right)wanted to bring him to justice.
SINGAPORE - Former Straits Times editor Cheong Yip Seng publishes tell-all including anecdotes about ESM Goh Chok Tong and the NKF saga, among other things that readers didn't know.

THE NKF SAGA

Mr Cheong wrote that Mrs Goh Chok Tong had worked behind the scenes to try to settle the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) saga amicably.

Then-NKF chief executive TT Durai took The Straits Times to court to sue for defamation, upset over an article's suggestion that he was extravagant.

"In March the following year (2005) before the case went to court, NKF sent out feelers: Why not try and settle it in the Singapore Mediation Centre instead?

We agreed. But before mediation began, another attempt, one of several over the next two months, was made to settle out of court.

NKF's patron, Mrs Goh Chok Tong, wife of the senior minister, sent word: Could we settle to avoid unpleasant publicity?

She would come to News Centre in Toa Payoh to meet CEO Alan Chan and me, and would bring along NKF chairman Richard Yong and one of NKF's directors, Matilda Chua.

The 'without prejudice' meeting was held in the board room.

By then, with Davinder Singh paying close, personal attention, we had amassed material we were confident would set the trial alight...

What we gathered by way of evidence so incensed (SPH chairman) Lim Kim San, he vowed that Durai must be brought to justice."

if this matter was "amicably" settled, would that be an obstruction to see justice being carried fairly and corruption remained the evil of the day? gosh! to think that peanut lady actually worked in lee & lee was indeed a shocking revelation!

it proves one very sad and sorry state in singapore. if u r linked to powderful and influential people, sometime u can easily get away from the nonsense created. either that or all shall be concealed. that's the elitist's justice here. so how many other injustice from elitists are still left uncovered, protected and maybe breeding into a more arrogant scale?

Remember Archie Ong?

How come no pap leader felt the need to right the wrong done to Archie?
