Ng Geng Whye, 51, was sentenced to 4-1/2; months jail on Friday.
Ng, who is married with a 14-year-old son, pleaded guilty last month to committing an obscene act with a young person under the Children and Young Persons Act.
The 17-year-old teen cannot be identified under a court order.
The teen was a regular on an online chatroom popular with homosexual men since he was nine years old.
Needing money for things like clothes and cell phones, he posted messages on the website in December 2006 saying he was 'seeking paid fun'.
Ng was one of the men who responded.
The boy offered to perform sexual acts on Ng for $150, but the latter advised the teen not to prostitute himself.
In February 2007, he met Ng online again and after a chat, they met for supper.
Ng also hired the boy to work at his restaurant - Home of the Deep Fried Nyonya Chang - in Kampong Bahru Road.
It was there the offence was committed sometime in March after closing hours.
A couple of days later, the boy stopped going to work and they stopped contacting each other.
In May last year, the teen's mother got an anonymous call about her son's Internet activities.
Subsequently, six men, including Ng, were charged with committing obscene acts on the minor.
Ng, who now runs an events and artiste management business, intends to appeal.
His bail was increased from $6,000 to $10,000.

A BUSINESSMAN, who counselled a teenager against prostituting himself to older men, ended up sexually abusing the 15-year-old. Ng Geng Whye, 51, was sentenced to 41/2 months' jail on Friday after pleading guilty to committing an obscene act with a young person under the Children and Young Persons Act. The court heard that the teen, now 17, who cannot be identified, began chatting online with strangers when he was in Primary 3. He soon became a regular in a chatroom popular with homosexual men. In December 2006, the teen wanted money for clothes and a new cellphone, so he posted messages on the website saying he was 'seeking paid fun'. Ng was among the men who responded to the posting. The boy offered to perform sexual acts on Ng for $150, but the older man, who is married with a 14-year-old son, advised the teen not to prostitute himself. The teen got angry and stopped chatting with Ng.

In February 2007, he ran away from home. By coincidence, he met Ng online again and they had supper together. Despite their age difference, they started meeting frequently. Ng persuaded the boy to return home and also hired him to work at his restaurant - Home of the Deep Fried Nyonya Chang - in Kampong Bahru Road. It was there that the offence was committed some time in March 2007 after closing hours. Sexual acts with people under 16, even with their consent, is prohibited by law. A couple of days after the incident, the boy stopped work and Ng lost contact with him. The teen's mother called the police in May 2007, after receiving an anonymous call about her son's Internet activities.

The boy was questioned and six men, including Ng, were charged with committing obscene acts on a minor. The first to be charged was Quek Hock Sing, 42, who pleaded guilty in January and was jailed for four months. Victor Ng Yong You, 25, and Thomas Song Choong Chen, 37, were jailed for three months each last month, while Muhammad Hafashah Mohd Aslam, 21, was placed on 15 months' probation. The case against the last man, Balasundram Suppiah, 40, has not been heard. Ng's lawyer Wendell Wong informed the court that his client will appeal against the sentence. Ng, who now runs an event and artiste management company, is out on $10,000 bail.

Jail Term cut from 18 weeks to 10 weeks

A man who counselled a teenager against prostituting himself to older men but went on to abuse the boy sexually had his jail term cut on appeal yesterday.
High Court Judicial Commissioner Steven Chong said this was because businessman Ng Geng Whye, 51, had made genuine efforts to counsel the boy and even gave him a part-time job at his restaurant.
Also, the businessman’s act was not pre-meditated but had been committed in the heat of the moment, the judicial commissioner noted.
Ng was sentenced to 18 weeks’ jail last September for performing oral sex with the boy, a stiffer term than what was given to five other men who had paid the boy for sexual services. They got between 12 and 16 weeks each.
Ng will now serve 10 weeks in jail.
The judicial commissioner, after hearing Ng’s appeal, said the level of his culpability was lower than that of the men who had paid the boy for sex.
He said that if Ng had wanted to take advantage of the boy, now 17, he could have done so much earlier, when the teenager propositioned him.
He also noted that the district judge who sentenced Ng had taken into account that the act was non-consensual, but said consent was not a relevant factor.
Ng, who is married with a 14-year-old son, used to be an assistant director with the Central Narcotics Bureau. He left the bureau in 1995.
He met the boy in mid-2006 on an Internet relay chat. When the boy – who had been chatting with strangers online since he was nine – offered him sexual services, he advised him against engaging in such activities.
Some months later, Ng found the boy a job and would send him home after work.
In March 2007, Ng even met the boy’s family, who patronised his restaurant. That evening, the family left after the meal but the boy stayed behind. Ng switched off the lights, then abruptly pushed the boy onto a table and performed oral sex on him.
Two months later, an anonymous caller told the boy’s mother about her son’s online activities. She went to the police in May 2007.

Ng’s lawyer Wendell Wong argued that his client did not seek to exploit the boy sexually and was different from the five other men who responded to the teen’s solicitations.
But Deputy Public Prosecutor Gillian Koh-Tan argued that Ng had initiated the sexual act and was in a position of trust.
