JOHOR BARU: Essential items sold at wet markets, pasar tani and supermarkets here are within the price ceiling guidelines set by the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consu_merism Ministry for the coming Chinese New Year.

Johor Bumiputra Consumers Association deputy president Abdul Majid Kayat said in fact, some traders at the Larkin pasar tani sold dressed chickens cheaper than the ministry's ceiling price of RM7 (S$2.95) per kg, which he described as "great bargains."

He said there were several traders who did not comply with the guidelines by selling imported cabbages at RM5 (S$2.10) per kg, instead of RM3.20 (S$1.35) set by the ministry.

"We will make our rounds regularly until Feb 10.

"We need to ensure traders are not taking advantage by increasing prices during the festive period,'' Abdul Majid said after making his rounds at the Larkin pasar tani.

He said that other spots monitored were Kipmart Tampoi, Larkin wet market, Kg Melayu Majidee wet market, Skudai pasar tani and Taman Ungku Tun Aminah wet market.

Abdul Kayat said red chillies which hit RM18 (S$7.55) per kg in Johor Baru recently had come down to RM8 (S$3.35( per kg, due to the abundant chilli supply in Kulaijaya.

He said there was not much change in the price of fresh eggs, with the Grade A eggs sold at 36sen (S$0.15) each, while Grade B and Grade C eggs were sold at 35sen (S$0.14) and 34sen (S$0.13) respectively.

If you farking stupid government do not change your ways .
There just will be more drastic measures to be taken .

Demand and supply. Farmer can choose not to sell at low price or next harvest dont plant those vege dont have profir.
Also consumer can choose not to buy at high price. Let the market justify the price.

Did you misread??? This is a control put in place to prevent unscrupulous merchants from taking the opps to raise price for CNY. It is not about forcing farmers to sell cheap or govt subsidising.

Eg. Chicken is MYR6.90 at Jusco, which is the normal price. The control is merchant cannot sell this beyind MYR7.00
