35 SAF officers to be conferred NTU Master's degrees

SINGAPORE - Nanyang Technological University (NTU) will be conferring 35 Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) officers this week with Masters degrees under the SAF-NTU Continuing Education Master's programme.

Launched in 2008, the SAF-NTU Continuing Education Master's programme enables SAF officers to pursue a a Master's degree through full-time or part-time study as part of their on-going career development path.

The first batch of graduands had to complete NTU-accredited courses in the key areas such as Military Leadership and Military Technology before embarking on the Master's programme. These courses were taught by senior SAF officers from the Goh Keng Swee Command and Staff College and trainers from NTU.

The SAF officers received Master's degrees in Logistics, Management, Strategy, Strategic Studies and Instructional Design and Technology.

NTU Provost, Prof Freddy Boey said the programme shows SAF and NTU's commitment in 'advancing educational opportunities to train and develop Singapore's future leaders.'

SAF Chief of Staff-Joint Staff Brigadier-General (BG) Tan Ming Yiak Mark also said the programme is a way of supporting SAF's service men and women's development and academic aspirations.

To facilitate officers who wish to participate in the programme, SAF introduced a Full-Pay Study Leave scheme in 2009 which allows officers the option to study full-time at NTU for 1 trimester (about 13 weeks).

This scheme was later enhanced in 2011 to extend the Full-Pay Study Leave period up to 2 trimesters (about 7 months), depending on their chosen Master's degree.

You look down on SAF Standard?? Toothpick, Zorro, Limp Sia Suay, Master Degree from Stanford...you look down??

You may be right but as long as they lick the right asses, they have a chance of being CEO of SMRT, LTA, Acting Ministar or Deput Speaker
