SOME election officials have been advised not to take long leave for the months of April and May, AsiaOne understands.
The advice comes on the heels of increasing signs of an impending General Election.
Since 2008, the Elections Department has been sending out letters to 28,000 public servants, such as education officers, identifying them as election officials and informing them to attend training.
According to the Singapore's official elections website, these people are the "impartial administrators of the election process."
The election officials will be manning the polling booths on voting day to facilitate the process. Their duties include the verification of voters' identities. They will also be around to explain the voting process should such assistance be required, the website said.
However election officials cannot offer any advice or assistance so as not to run the risk of being accused of favouring one political party over another.
According to reports in The Straits Times, the opposition forecast that Polling Day could be as early as end-April after the People's Action Party unveiled its first group of new candidates.
The General Election is to be held by February next year.
