The poorest are the walking dead you see everyday..the everyday, nameless, faceless, "empty shell" of a person..dragging themselves to work on the public transport, making a living, earning a salary, serving National Service, donating to Central Provident Fund ( where yOUR money becomes OURS), paying indrect taxes, upkeeping an expensive government etc...

True, let's not forget what Vivian Balakrishnan said in parliament about food vouchers for the poor: Do you expect that they eat in Food Court????

This is the typical kind of high horse attitude of the traitorous rulers of Singapore!! Did thye have best interest of sgians in their heart? More likely they useless to the core and look after their own interest which is linked to GDP growth which pays them indecent bonuses on top of the world's highest pay.Now they wayang here n there by paying $100 monthly into PG acct and make so much fanfare about it. Rapid GDP growth does not benefit the normal sgian but made the suffer having to compete with stinko FTs for public resources like Mrt , buses , housing etc.......... so pple like VB gets extra millions in bonus while other non elite pay the price of utter inconvenience!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Imagine the poverty line is at $1500 and the PM monthly salary is some 240 times above that..( $360,000 per month),not only it is offensive and draws flak but also show how uncaring our leader is on those who have fallen through the cracks .

we don't need an official National Poverty line from the government. since they refuse to come up with one, we can fill the gap.

simplistically, plug in the figures of the national poverty line from Hong Kong (since our societies are quite similar) into our local context.

HKD 3600 is the poverty line for a single household of 1 person, which is about SGD 600 (so 4 person household earning SGD 2400 total will be at poverty line.) Based on 2013 figures, that puts about 15% of the households in singapore at or below the poverty line.

go figure.
